This isnt something that just popped up yesterday it’s been an ongoing years long investigation.

There’s a lot of information on it if your interested in why it’s an easy search.

The democratic party is the new Republican and Democratic party. The republican party is over but it will be allowed to exist as a foil to the dems. The dems have to act like they're trying to do something "if it wasn't for the republicans", and the republicans have free reign to do whatever the want but their ideology is 'send people's taxes to companies so that the companies will get more money' so they're so internally pointless that it's fine. I think the trump wing of the dem party will likely become more anti-capital as capital beats their fucking ass for being lame despite cucking for it for decades. They will realize that traditionally the US was a conformist collectivist society and the disappearance of this is actually what's bothering them (they're too, you know, to independently concoct a personality).

But fucc em. I agree with that the tech companies need to be broken up and regulated. Big tech also realizes the dem party has more or less won for the next few decades and they're doing theatre to make sure they don't get regulated, and it'll work. It's also not unconstitutional to ban people and the only entity that is constitutionally obligated to anything is the government. we're not going to have any real friction in government after Trump. Everything will be theatrics. The 'radical left' will be melted into goo soon and a bunch of industry plan radical lefters will emerge and the trump movement is too dependent on a singular person to last. 20 years and something else will happen but we're about to enter a long stretch of lethargy and decline.

Ok. Easier read than said. FB I would agree, google would be a harder sell. They have become more than just a search engine website.

The right needs go through a rebranding. People care less and less about some of thier main selling points like Christian values and gun control. Just opposing Dems views isn't creative and most can decipher it. They have morphed into a party of socialism for corporations.

Are we really not seeing that twitter, Facebook, youtube etc have been igniting the Trump flame for 4 years and waiting until some crazy shit finally happened to take action because he was going after big tech? It’s pretty fucking obvious from here.

Also major lols that the government aren’t the ones who are supposed regulate big tech. Yeah major they should regulate themselves that’ll work, what the fuck

It’s also not even specifically about banning Trump but the fact they can all join together and essentially silence someone with that amount of reach and power is pretty crazy to think about. That’s some power that has a major impact on the world. They can re-write and create narratives at will

Exactly. The government should be fighting to break them up not partnering with them to silence a political rival under a weak and false pretense.

Politicians have incited riots all year with their rhetoric let’s not get too existential about what’s happening it’s pretty blatant and highly corrupt.

I agree with that. But I can see both sides on this particular issue.

Twitter bans people all the time for things less inflammatory and by less influential people than Trump. They waited to do it though. Personally I wouldn't have banned him just cos he's still going to get the site attention, but I don't know what other pressures they had.

Realistically this is the tip of the iceberg going forward. The access to data and advanced technology these companies have is unprecedented. facebook has 2.7 billion users, that's like half the adults on earth.

The technology will change life regardless, but we need benevolent guardians of it. I doubt they will come in the form of monolithic corporations or governments.

People don't want to hear that this requires radical changes though.

Ultimately these companies will have the power to track your every movement, health and emotional state, predict behaviour and influence it on a personal level.

But yeah a government regulating that stuff is not necessarily better, look at how they use tech in China. The problem is political discourse is always reactionary, we'll be worrying about this shit after it's happened a few years from now.

It’s really not about Facebook or Twitter not being allowed to have rules or only cater to liberal views or whatever views they want.

I think people are missing the big point.

It’s the control they have over the entire market that makes what they do illegal. They can suppress competition in a variety of ways and have been doing so.

Government has been aware of this, Dems have Been aware of this, the problem now is that FB will probably be protected as a monopoly because it’s partnered with the Biden administration.

We will see. If they want us too.

Id encourage people to read up on it and understand it. It not what people think it is... like “a private company can censor what it wants it can make its own rules.” That not what it’s about.

It’s about a particular government or party using said monopoly as a means to control people coupled with “domestic terror” laws that increased security of its own people.

Look that’s what China does. No sane person would want the US to turn into that.

I think most people just were ignorant of what they voted in.

I agree. That wasn't what I was talking about though, these companies have the potential to transform the world in the next few decades, not only with monopolies and political influence.

As far as facebook, part of the problem is the nature of social media - the selling point of facebook is being able to keep in touch with all your friends and family, business contacts etc. If you split facebook in 2 what happens? Most likely people are now just on 2 different social media platforms and after a while one wins. Unless there's another way of doing it, but I can't think of anything.

They say, “if you don’t like it create your own platform”, which would be fine if they didn’t suppress or gobble up competition.

    Take what’s happening with Parler
Right now for instance as well.

Amazon is booting off its web hosting services as Apple and Google removes it from its app stores.

Basically Uniting to crush a rival company and reinforce its monopoly. They work in tandem, all 3 monopolies within their own markets.

But it’s not new they’ve been guilty of this before hence the investigation and lawsuit.

Only now they’re partners w Biden.

So government controlling what a business puts on its website/platform=good

Business deciding what to put on their own website\platform=bad

    Which one is authoritarian?

I'm not saying the government isn't the one that supposed to be regulating these companies, I'm saying constitutional rights are a contract between people and their government not people and institutions. If Americans understood this the de-cucking of the American brain can begin. You will then hesitate to give too much power to something that has absolutely no constitutional obligation to uphold anything with you outside of their own vague semi-illegal 'terms of use'.

We have enjoyed a society where benefits to people are usually side-effects of companies trying to make money. So we think these companies exist to benefit us or are existentially prone to producing benefits. The truth is to an extent yes but money only gets better at making money and if you think it's nice that companies accidentally produce jobs wait till the find out (gotten there) that you can make even more money not hiring people. Or if you think companies are corrupting the system by lobbying, wait till they see the returns of silencing their enemies.

It's like hip hop lol. People were rapping pretty shitty in the 80s but they at least found out you can make money rapping and making good music, then in 88-96 they found out they came make money rapping well and making good music. Then they found out they can make even MORE money rapping shitty and having naked women in the video 00-05, then they found out they came make MORE money literally not rapping, punching other rappers and dating celebrities, then they found out they came make even more than than making up fake rumors about fucking Jeffery Star and podcasting. in 2030 they will all be having sex changes because that does well online numbers-wise.

So the things that are there to make money should be allowed to but Americans lean on them too much under the pretense that their accidental benefit is their existential reality. We let 'the tech giants' by and kill literally every hope of competition and twitter has learned that the real money is in making fake trending topics for money, most of which insight a false sense of conflict that turns into real conflict.
