Default Ghostface Killah & Wish Bone's Brawl At Def Jam's Holiday Party

Consequence narrates what went down during the infamous Def Jam Holiday Party brawl in 1996, with Complex.

During this time tensions were high between West Coast and East Coast Hip Hop artists, partially because of Bad Boy Entertainment's ongoing feud with Death Row.

As Wish Bone of Bone thugs-n-harmony was being escorted through what was then 90s NYC hot spot Mirage before it was Terminal 5, Ghostface Killah saw him and asked him what he was doing there, presumably because Bone thugs-n-harmony was signed to Eazy-E's label Ruthless Records.

Tony Starks then throws a champagne bottle with an attempt to hit Wish Bone and misses. The bottle consequently hits a guy from Consequence's crew.

"So now it's a melee," Cons says. "Bottles everywhere. It's crazy in there. So Tribe's manager [Chris] Lighty go get my guy to take him to the hospital because he's cut pretty bad. He's just bleeding everywhere."

Consequence says once they're in the car on the way to the hospital he spots Ghostface taking off his outfit and putting on a ninja suit with three other guys.

"After that they went their way and we went to hospital," the Bronx, NY rapper continues. "That's my Ghostface story. I really seen him do some shit in the streets that's way past anything that's said on social media. Like, he really is about that Wu-Tang life."

Funny & believable. 96 was wild. I feel bad for Hip Hop fans who missed it.

Yeah, those were definitely different times here in NY where you had to watch your back but now with the slashings and an increase in the poor during the last decade the angst has returned in a sense from what i see.

All I know is, if my face gets cut, shit is going to be different. I will be like my long dormant dark side will finally be unleashed. So if I do get slashed, whoever did it had better run away as far as they can as fast as they can.

Most definite. Interesting to see how things blend with the modern sense of social media and the internet and things. One thing we'll never get back is the mystique tho. That was one thing that made the mid-90s so ill.

Why would Ghostface Killah be mad at Wish Bone for being at a Def Jam party? Wish Bone is from the eastcoast which is my hometown Cleveland, Ohio and he didn't have nothing to do with the eastcoast westcoast beef just because he was signed to a westcoast record label. Bone Thugs and Harmony did a song with Notorious Big which was Notorious Thugs. If Bone Thugs hated eastcoast rappers, they wouldn't have done a song with Notorious Big. Eazy E, MC Ren and Above The Law that were with Ruthless records never dissed New York rappers. That was very immature of Ghostface Killah to do what he did because that situation shouldn't have happened.

Wu seemed to always have issues with BTNH for whatever reasons. A lot of people think the intro on Forever was directed to them, talking about fake r&b rappers

Kurupt dissed Bone Thugs and Harmony on Dogg Pound's first song on Dogg Food album when he said ain't got no love for no hoes in harmony hahahahahahahahahaha. Kurupt was on Krayzie Bone's first solo album.

You know what tho, I mean Cons is only guessing why Ghost had beef with Bone. I think he might be filling in the blanks a bit. I mean look, I wasn't there so I don't know. Maybe it was a West Coast thing. Like I said before 96 was wild.

All I'm saying is there might be something else behind this. Would love to hear Ghost's take on the events.
