you definitely had the right idea of going the route you did with Soup for Above Water. it didnt sound like a mess of tracks just thrown together.

SSJ4 and Track 09 respectively. ahah two of my favs as well.

and yo!!! i cant help but to find myself doing the same exact thing when it comes to your line from Space for Rent "smirking like a king while your working on your thing there jerking on the string while they're lurking in the wings" ahhahahahahah! ive listened to that track at least 8 times and i havent even played Underwater all the way through yet. hahaah. good times good times.

as for the samples, i pulled all of them and placed them accordingly except for the one at the end of Icebergz. noguano found that one. its the little things like that that go a long way. and that Caucasian/cock Asian line was me modifying my voice... i modified my voice in that track twice to be honest with you...

all this chats got me excited for the next one sheesh.

Haha, shit man, I actually wanted to leave SFR off that album cos I wasn't into it, and Soup Bone hates the beat. But I decided to leave it on there. Sounds like I made the right call, ha!

its the little things like that that go a long way
Fucken A, man. Like I say the samples and shit on that album go a long way to giving it that professional finish, and making it flow so well as an album.

So is that you singing that part that goes "I like the way you brush your hair" etc., with a modified voice? That shit is fucking cool, man.

I'll def be excited to hear what you G's come up with for the next joint too.

Considering you two have moved on to the Honeymoon phase of this Bromance.

Have you considered doing a collab album?

It could be called "Noel, Mister"

The music definitely grew on me. It's sounds like Google Search over a beat. I fuck with it. Check out the videos when you can, the visuals help the tracks standout more though my only beef was the fact that the songs all blend together and the album sounds like one long song/audiobook. There will be lines i like, but it's almost impossible to remember what song you heard the line on so idk where to start and it's hurts the replay value. I just downloaded my favorite 2 on Youtube and called it good.

But the lyrics are fire, the whole style is really creative, and you'll definetely go places if you stay consistent and keep putting out work. Fuck an album, just drop song/video after song/video, I don't think your style is suited for albums but can go viral fast and built a strong cult following.

You also did a really good job just being yourself.

^You're telling a really creative dude to stop being creative, G.

I don't know, maybe videos and shit are what he needs to do to get his name out there. But fuck that shit. Being a creative musician is about making good albums. Especially in hip hop where the musicianship and live performance aren't factors.

From a personal standpoint I can say personally I don't give the slightest fuck about videos and as big a Mister Yo fan as I am, I only watched his videos once out of interest. Also my brothers were really digging on the Mister Yo albums I played when they visited recently, and then I put a couple of videos on for them cos they were interested in seeing the great Mister Yo in person, and they said seeing the videos took away from the Mister Yo experience for them.

Videos are a tool for appealing to simple minded people. Mister Yo is not gonna appeal to simple minded people in any case.

I totally understand what you're saying about the songs blending into one and it being hard to remember what songs certain lines were from etc. But that's a good thing as far as making an album like No, Mister goes. That's why it's so fucking great. It's like one big cohesive whole, not just a collection of songs.

WAHH works great as an album too, though a bit broken by a couple of songs that maybe shouldn't have been there.

I mean it's up to Mister Yo what direction he takes, but as a fan my only interest is in hearing what albums he's gonna come up with. And from discussions with him he is totally in tune with the art and goal of making albums, and I'd hate to see him stray from that course to make videos.

And I totally agree that if he can find the right audience he's definitely got something that can go somewhere and build a strong following.

For someone like me I stopped listening to new hip hop so many years ago now, and yet I'm bumping Mister Yo non stop. He needs to find more people like me, lolz.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I find a lot of lines I like but It's hard for me to go back to them because the lyrical format is the same on everyone and beats similar. So they all blend into one. Each medium of presentation someone uses for an art form will effect the art form it's self. So without changing the content or style (which is nice and I'm a fan of), Mister Yo's style if more digestible in video or single song presentation format as opposed to introducing it as a whole album.

Video gives each song it's own life so by the time you get to the album it breaks the repetition (which is oddly created by a lack of repetition). So I'm not asking him to change his music, I'm only sharing how each medium of presentation effected me as a listener.

It's good to hear hip hop in a different form all together. That whole 16 bar verse, chorus, 16 chorus 16 chorus end shit is fucking gay and tired. Even if it's good the format is so predictable that nobody cares. Mister Yo is pretty far removed from those conventions, enough to be a genre of it's own if it exists. I just don't think it makes sense in an album format. It's like EDM. Even if you like it, why the fuck would you buy and album of that shit? It's best enjoyed live because the effect that medium has on the artform.

Fair enough. It's up to the individual though. Like I said, as a big Mister Yo fan myself I just wanna hear albums, and I love hearing what he does with albums, and I think he's got a great sense of how to put together a good album. And making albums is the best opportunity for showing creativity and achieving something lasting that a rapper has. I have no interest in seeing Mister Yo videos, or anybody else.

I think with his loose style and structure an album like No, Mister is perfect. I said in an earlier post that it reminds me of Madvilliany. That's because both albums don't really have many actual songs at all. It's mostly just rhyming over one beat and then on to the next one. With Mister Yo's steez that works great. And it's all about how you put the tracks together as one to create an album.

Mister Yo is a creative dude. I know he strives to make good albums. If you're focusing on single songs and videos you've got no hope of creating anything lasting, because songs and videos don't matter. Albums are the representation of a hip hop artist's worth. I mean as people who discuss hip hop here on this forum, how often do we talk about an artist's albums and use them as a representation of what they've achieved, as opposed to talking about their songs and videos?

i get both sides of this coin. and everything TSA is saying reassures me that i did exactly what i set out to do with No, Mister... which is good for me, but obviously may not be for every listener... BUT it also goes to show that if someone actually listens, they will find dope lines that they like... enough said.

rest assured, im working on another ALBUM and not focusing too much on the videos, if yall realized i dont even have any vids for any of the tracks from No, Mister. BUT with this insight from TSA i might just have to drop a video for the new one BUT in the end i want to have (different) albums to look back on because, for real, at the end of the day what dope artists are you only kicking back to and listening to one or two songs from?

The only rappers/hip hop groups actual music fans remember are the ones who put out good albums.
