Question West coast projects compared to east coast

Hi ya'll. I am probably gonna show my Europeanness here but this is a question I have wondered about for a long time.

From watching music videos of my favourite rappers, I have noticed the following about the hoods from there:

    West coast

Normally looks suburban and small scale with nice weather and palm trees, not somewhere you would normally associate with lots of crime, SWAT raids, drive bys etc.

A quick Google search for "west coast housing projects" doesn't bring anything up on the scale of the east coast projects, this was the worst I could find:

    East coast

Looks like a depressing hell hole and the buildings themselves look very forboding, like the buildings in the Ghost Busters movie for instance. Generally a lot of urban decay of abandoned buildings.

A quick Google of new york projects brings these up:

Holy shit! Never seen so many project buildings in one place before! Now that is somewhere I would associate with all manner of criminal activities.

Just imagine the depression living in that hell hole would cause and the desire to escape from there.

Even Staten Island which is the smallest boro has quite a lot of project buildings:

This is Park Hill, where half the clan was from; Stapleton projects are similar:

I also watched a motovlogger called bakerxderek who lives in San Bernadino (the hood) and apart from the crime it really does look like a nice place to live:

I am not questioning the realness of the West coast, obviously they have more than their fair share of crime, but it just seems there hoods look like a much more pleasant and far less depressing place to live than those on the east coast.

I have always noticed that too. But you have to consider that a good majority of people in NYC live in large apartment buildings or multi dwelling units, while LA has way more single family homes compared to east coast.

    hahahahahahhahahahahhahahaha.

    on topic.

east coast has a winter which hardens us up as individuals and exposes the buildings to hot heat and high humidity in the summer to frigid blistering cold winds and conditions... lol

A little stucco and a few palm trees and you can have your projects looking like a gated community.

west coast cites are more a product of sprawl and there's more land available. The projects are therefore more or less low-income suburbs and weren't original projects to begin with. A lot of them were decent neighborhoods until the economy went to the outskirts (factories, offices, etc).

    This is LA

There's no reason to build 2 story, plenty of land and a bad pre-2000 approach to urban planning.

NY has land scarcity for a while and so their projects reflect conversationist leanings.

    This is NY
