I don't ever think he reached his full potential when it came to releasing quality solo albumz
Def has not. First one took too long to come out and was plagued with some mediocre beats but the lyrics were tight. Second album, I really liked the concept he was going for but it somehow fell flat. All the others were just so so. But I will say when I first popped in Manifesto and the Champion came on, my head nearly blew off. That track is so fucking sick, it made the rest of the album an instant let down. He doesn't lack talent that's for sure.
Don't agree. Manifesto were wack but his first 3 albums got some really good tracks.
wu bore me, only their 1st set of albums have decent lyrics..
everything else is pointless and throwaway to me.
lol i forgot mk was on sound of the slums LOL. Maybe being on a feature brings the best out of him?
Even if they're nice I don't go back and listen to them. The City of Wutang Forever is sick though, so let me say that's one I go back to (though not as much as other tracks on the album)
I agree.
Uncontrolled Substance was really boring. Zero replay for me I probably listened to it through 3 times.
damn US never gets the recognition it really deserves. Thats fucked up
N.I.
Still one of the best tracks from that Wu era. If he could put together a whole album like this, it would be a modern classic.
I dont like US. I just drones on with no focus. No song stands out and, again, it's boring.
I love Uncontrolled Substance. That got a ton of replay value for me when it came out. Never thought it was wack. But I do think that Deck's expectation levels ruined it somewhat for many.
Deck can release a dope solo project if he gets production from 7L,9th Wonder, Bronze, Apollo Brown, and maybe one or two RZA tracks.
He can still write some sick verses and his flow is still there. Just needs some inspiration.
The Champion.
"The skywalker, that be leapin' over planets"
i think it's more that he's a low key, so full albums sometimes come off a bit monotonous, and he's become more one-note as he's aged. but the solo tracks on uncontrolled substance were all pretty good.
this thread is crazy to me.... if you were saying INspectah Deck can't hold an album by himself, yeah i'm with you. but a fucking song?? he got tons of incredible songs without any guest features.
"The Champion"? (and that's rather recent too)
"LET ME AT THEM" (seriously, this is just as good as any of the other solo showcases by the generals at this point, at the very least)
"City High"
"Nightshift"
"A Lil' Story"
"Get Down WIth Me"
"No Luv" (i absolutely love this)
"The Eyes"
"TROUBLE MAN" (this is sooooo underrated)
"R.E.C. Room" (come on now, you don't fuck with this?)
"Hyperdermix" (Large Pro and Deck, classic)
"Show N Prove" (love this, but he fucked up by not letting this profound message close down the album instead going with the run-of-the-mill boring "The Cause")
this thread seems to be just for controversy
