Even viewers who haven't enjoyed the movies of the DC Extended Universe thus far are eager to see what Ben Affleck has planned for The Batman, his upcoming reboot of the Batman franchise, set within the DCEU. Affleck has made some quality crime thrillers (The Town, Argo), with another big one on the way (Live By Night), so most DC fans see him as the natural selection of director to make the sort of Batman film that fans haven't seen yet, but always wanted to.

Directors like Tim Burton and Chris Nolan have made quality Batman films, sure; but in the minds of most fans, there could have been more done to improve both the action sequences and detective story elements of those films. Well, one of the DCEU's recent new additions, True Blood star Joe Manganiello, will be joining The Batman after making his debut as Deathstroke the Terminator in Justice League. Manganiello recently did a podcast with Pittsburgh's Mark Madden (via Reddit), in which he talked about The Batman, and why should be excited by it.

Joe Manganiello Talks Ben Affleck's The Batman movie
In describing the film Affleck is making, Manganiello said, "His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it's a road that no one's really gone down that's completely integral to, you know, who Batman is. And I think it's gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it's going to take this franchise in a direction that I think A LOT of people are going to be really happy about."

That's a big claim, given the mass exposure that Batman has gotten in modern culture. Still, hearing that fans are going pleased with the results of Affleck's Batman movie is a bit of a vague promise. Manganiello followed up his initial description with more specific descriptions, adding that, "It's going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman...everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie."

"Gritty" is a word that lost popularity with Nolan's Batman films, but fans are probably going to be happy to hear words like "action-packed" and "cerebral" being tossed around. As stated, even the best Batman films of Burton and Nolan could've been better with the action and detective story elements of Batman's character - and it sounds like Affleck is aiming to do just that.

...So how does Manganiello's claims stack up against recent rumors that The Batman script has massive problems? Well, the negative whispers are just that: whispers and rumors. Manganiello may be obligated to help promote his film, but he's also been a pretty straight shooter up ‘til now. No reason to doubt the man at his word.

He'll have a hard time matching/topping Nolan. I think what really worked for Nolan was the fact he dropped all the supernatural shit and based it in reality, hightened reality, as he called it.

Christopher Nolans had stupid little (seeable) twists and stupid side stories. overrated as fuck and im sick of people holding them films in such high esteem.

i aint stressing this shit sun, Ben Afflack's got it down. i have a faith in him.

While I agree that the Nolan movies were excellent, as a die hard comic book reader, nolans batman did not feel like batman at all, it felt more like a rich guy with tech and an advanced suit, the realism was cool but it also crippled the movies in some areas, afflecks batman was the first time I watched batman on the big screen and felt like Bruce Wayne came to life, the fact that he doesn't always wear the suit just to wear it, the investigative aspect, Alfred being the m16 agent we know from the comics working on intel and his suits makes afflecks batman off to a good start, trust me , if he sticks to the BVS formula, u gonna see the best batman yet, i also believe he hinted on the death in the family storyline which has no supernatural shit whatsoever

Dude, batman begins was the only Nolan movie that felt like a batman iteration, the movies after were great but don't fool yourself to think bale was the perfect iteration of batman, his suit alone turned Into some pseudo robocop meets owlmAn suit, it just didn't come off as a traditional batman suit, what saved the franchise was heath ledgers joker, the 3rd movie was lackluster compared to the first 2

2ndly stop repeating popular talking points by whiny crybabies on the Internet, for you to shit on afflecks directing skills would suggest you have no fucking idea what he is capable of, every movie he has directed has been great, the town, Argo, all great movies, dude actually is a dope as fuck director who can tell a story and build characters, in not even gonna get into the technicals like camera work etc. , just because it's popular to say Ben affleck sucks doesn't mean one should be repeating that, even for a movie that has barely been shot and edited. Don't be that guy.

    hahahah.

not as batman related but still dope, if you havent, check out that Gotham show, pretty pretty dope if i dont say so myself.

what about that Lego Batman movie supposed to be coming out next year ayee

edit after reading the most recent post:

i agree Batman Begins was pretty cool. i liked the whole training with the League of Assassins or Shadows i forget their name off the top and the Scarecrow scenes were pretty cool, as it wasnt a huge/upscale affair of effects and stupidness as the other villains he decided to portray in later films. but i agree Christian Bale did not do batman or Bruce Wayne justice at all. at all. the suit was wack! i read somewhere that Afflack wanted to keep the suit in BvS (and i dont blame him cause its super dope) but the producers were like pay me 100,000$ hahah and he was like nah.

Heath Ledger as the Joker was bleh. and i hate how he died cause all these idiots think he set this "tone" for the Joker and nah he didnt at all. could you see that Joker fucking with Harley Quinn at all? i couldnt. i didnt like it and i actually find it hard to watch them Batman movies as a huge fan of the bat.

smh i continue to cry. waiting for the day people my age take over show business and come out with Teen Titan/Batman Beyond and all other spinoffs of the bat like all the Robins and Dick.

tl:dr Bens heading in the right direction.
