they both have a point. there will always be party records and there's nothing wrong with that. hiphop STARTED OUT as party records and as 'rocking parties'
but the lines between hiphop and other genres have blurred so much through autotune mostly that there's a wide open field now that is marketed as hiphop but sounds more like a crossover between RnB, pop and hiphop lite. with a very very low level of lyricism. I'm talking worse than crunk here
personally I think that this whole style that is in high demand in the mainstream right now is gonna sound very dated in say 3 years time
put on a young thug, lil yachty, fetti wop etc they're hard to distinguish so it all starts sounding the same. and don't get me started on lyrical content cuz we all know the deal on that one haha
RA seems mostly antagonized by the fact that it doesn't take skills to have a hit record as an 'mc' these days. when we're being honest you know he's right
doesn't mean I can't enjoy the occasional ignorant mumble rap song. but is it really rap? not to me. I would categorize it as party music / club music in general. and I'm fine with other people enjoying it 24/7
it'll be interesting to find out what music people who grow up on Young Thug and the likes now will listen to in a few years

I will add though that things seem to continuallly get worse in the mainstream, which is why I posted this hilarious fuckboy shit in gen chat yesterday
this guy is HUGELY popular in Jamaica right now (dude has family ties to Europe too and is gaining popularity in for example Holland as well). he started out as a dancehall artist and now makes this type of ugly hybrid shit music with a cringe worthy video to boot
I think things are gonna get way worse before they are gonna get better in the mainstream. this autotune thing is spreading to more genres like a disease. I will NOT be surprised when a metal/autotune hybrid turns up and becomes the new Linkin Park type thing, which was bad enough already

No need for us to be politically correct on a Wu forum so yeah f it I agree with Rugged Man. The first 20 seconds and last 20 seconds of the video were great points. Nobody is gonna care about Lil Yachty in a month never mind a year. N let's not forget that there are more dumb people in the world than smart. So his numbers don't mean a thing to me. Peace
brah. i grew up listening to Wu-Tang and now i listen to Thug too.
number one. kids dont listen to full albums anymore, even dudes my age will start bragging about how much music they got on their phone (lol) and i ask to look through it and everything is all out of order just a random track here and there from an artist. go to look for the Thugger songs and they only got two and they are not good ones yet they claim "i like Young Thug". smh. so what im saying is these kids say they listen to so and so but really, they dont.
number two. those kids who grew up listening to this shit will continue to follow the trends period, unless they are exposed to someone who actually seeks music out on their own, all they are going to continue to do is listen to music on fucking YouTube and the tracks they hear when someone uses the aux cord (lol)
number three. did RA actually listen to the Lil Boat Mixtape? or just "One Night" he dont even know the 'cold like Minnesota' song, i can tell.
number four. they already got metal/autotune hybrids. "metalcore" where have you been? hahah. and just like this, some groups aint bad others suck ass.
the real fucking skill is actually getting signed/getting attention.
lol @ motherfuckers trying to justify this wack shit, if u like this, cool, listen to whatever you want but don't try to pass this off as good hip hop. Call it what it is.
^^
"bubblegum trap"
I never heard Yachtys music but it always looks pathetic when old men take potshots at a young generation which they don't understand.
Ras most famous song to date has the chorus "I rip your cunts out with spoons" so he should stop being such a self righteous jackass.
I don't even remember what this thread was about, but honestly, how the fuck can there actually be somebody named Little Yachty?
lil fame is the only rappers name with lil in it thats hip hop. He prolly regrets having lil in his name sometimes lol

I think we older generation cats understand this new generation quite well. Spoiled little brats who cry when they don't get their way. A generation of so called rappers that have no knowledge of their history and disrespecting the guys who enabled you to have a career. How can any of us respect any of these rappers? Their music is ultra corny to boot. This Vlad dude is a cornball too, how does this mark have a radio show?

haha
DJ Vlad has the worst fucking taste in music.. he argued with Pete Rock for three days straight about the credibility of Lil Yachty in hip hop, like seriously wtf? he's constantly pushing Slim Jesus... smh.. he also once said that his favorite song OF ALL TIME is Lil' Wayne's "Lollipop".
^ youtube comment that i agree with.. hip hop is probably the only music genre where you can make it without actually ZERO talent or skill.welcome to the only genre where we accept "the lowest hung fruit". Try calling yourself a rock band, get on stage and scratch the guitar strings to a load of noise, then call it 'screech music' and see if the rock fans accept you for 'it is what it is'. Its pathetic that we are willing to not have standards for an art-form that we love. And THATs why hip-hop is devalued.
