was looking forward to that track with Tina (cause the track with Gangsta Boo is probs one of my fav RTJ tracks)... and the drums were tight , typical stupid El-P build up catastrophe once the beat drops, which i have come to stomach when it comes to RTJ but Trina sucked, i dont even remember here spitting a verse and ahhhh. its all just odd, El-P trying to sing on a few tracks like wtf the features are wack. El had some nice flows here and there.
ill listen again but Killer Mike has dug a hole for himself where i dont care to listen to him anymore due to their stupid political agenda like they know any better than me or anyone else for that matter... i dont need to hear about it.
ill probably spin this again as the first two are great hype/party tunes but this seems kinda played out now
I like these guys older work as solo artists. RTJ have a handful of songs I come back to but I generally find their shit a bit too pretentious and knowingly ironic. They sound way too pleased with themselves.
and i think that was how it was with RTJ2 as well, i forget exactly. RTJ was refreshing to me.
but that Thieves track was pretty cool on a second isolated listen. i forgot theres another track with Zack de la Rocha from Rage on RTJ3 hidden at the end if i recall. i always felt that he had a pretty bonkers verse on RTJ2 nowhere near as good as my girl Gangsta Boo's though lol to each their own.
i really like these drums before all the el p mischief starts up at 30 seconds hahah.
and when people spit a hook and people put it as "featuring" said artist that really gets to me. its better off if they keep them in the credits in the booklet. Kanye did this with I'm So Appalled and Kendrick and Earl did it too. all supposedly "featuring" RZA. smh.
This listener is a big El-P fan. This listener even bought his last dolo album in a thyme when this listener really wasn't listening to hip hop at all. And this listener loved it and gave it many spins. This listener loves all of his dolo albums as well as Cold Vein, and El-P is one of maybe 3 or so artists that this listener would be hyped about hearing a new dolo album from, and would even probably buy.
However, this listener has never heard an RTJ album. This listener heard tracks from the first one on the radio back when it dropped, and this listener really wasn't into it. This is not the sort of music this listener wants to hear from El-P. This listener also thinks the Killer Mike album that came out around the same thyme as El-P's last dolo album was ok but pretty overrated.
This listener will always be hyped about El-P solo joints though.
