This is actually quite a solid effort from Rae. My Corner and You Hear Me are the worst tracks. Definitely better than FILA. This album could've used Wu features though, that would've made this even better.

i haven't listened to the album yet, but two of the most forward thinking, evolving hip-hop albums of the last 5 years or so has without a doubt been Kendrick Lamars "to Pimp a Butterfly" and Kanye's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"... rhyming about how hard it is growing up in the streets and selling drugs to get out over 6 seconds loop coupled with hard drums is TIRED and had its moments in time - but it can't be recreated.. that's why producers liek Apollo Brown are so boring while people like Kanye and RZA of today really takes chances, orchestrates fresh music and uses that slamming loop as the starting point to add layers upon layers are the guys pushing the music forward.

Madlib, Roc Marciano, Alchemist are guys who do the somewhat "classic" formula but with enough new, personal elements to make it exciting again. the hip-hop we love was the zeitgeist of the 1990s it can't be recreated and we shouldn't want it to be. any music genre that doensn't keep evolving is a dead art form.

This new album..... yes. This is the one. He's finally got his grown man beat selection right.

I had my doubts, but I'm really impressed.

    A solid and cohesive album.
exactly can't copy someone else's shit, this is a consistant lp and thats what i want from an artist. and rae has the same issue nas has beat selection but this consistant.

personally I don't think Apollo Brown is boring at all, but to each their own of course

can't speak on Rae's new album yet. I'm just waiting for the hard copy in the mail cuz I'm an old fart like that. This thread got me curious though!

Its technically not bad but like Claaa alluded to, its very conservative and predictable. One of the more interesting tracks is 'Can You Hear Me' as Raekwon switches up his flow and its almost a modern style but as with most of the album the stale production and hooks let it down.

Justice Leagues production definitely stands out as high quality in this context.

i'm not neccesarily saying Apollo Brown is bad, i've played the shit out of "Trophies", but it's kind of like if Martin Scorsese would have kept doing nothing but gangster pictures bc "Goodellas" was such a success.. i'd rather have him make flicks like "Silence", "Hugo", "The Aviator", "Age Of Innocence", etc., as well as "Casino" and "The Departed".

K-DEF is a gretat ecample of a producer who has evolved and elevated while keeping true to his roos in a superb and exciting way

IMO, if it's not broke, don't fix it. A bit off topic, but I think Apollo Brown is one of the dopest (relatively) new producers out right now. I can listen to looped soul sampled beats all day. The only thing that is annoying is the fake vinyl static in every beat he makes. But I check every project he's on

    ^ Nothing bangs!

When that Lil Wayne joint came out I kinda lost hope for this album but I was proved wrong after listening to the album. Also the producers. When I saw who made the beats I didn't have high hopes but they came through with heat.

It's early days but with time I'll see if I like this more than SvWT.
