Exclamation Has Anyone Here Ever Broken Their Leg Before ?

    Hi...

I was hit by a car last week.
My Tibia & Fibula were both broken and both were clean breaks.
Having a metal rod put through my leg to help them rejoin
I had a successful operation and after days of treatment recovering
I have returned home from the Hospital.

I am told that they will need around 7 months to fully heal.
Any advice or tips to ease the pain and help them heal is welcome.
Being back home is a relief of course and more comfortable in a different way
However, not having a nurse & doctor at hand for advice now I am home...
I wonder if anyone can give me any advice or tips through their own experience
Whether it be yourself who has gone through this process, a friend or family member-
Any information or help with making the road to recovery as smooth as possible is greatly appreciated.

    Thank You.

    Thank you very much.

Obviously I've been told the basics of do's & dont's from the Hospital Staff
Just want some advice from the other side.

    But again, thanks.

That's fucked up to hear dude, I hope you recover well. Never broken my leg but that's about the timeline to recover fully that I've seen from other people that have. Never spoke to them about how they dealt with recovery and that. Do you smoke weed, wouldn't that give pain relief?

    Thanks man.

    Yeah I smoke weed...
However I'm unsure of whether it may be beneficial or detrimental to my cause.
The staff at the Hospital asked if I smoked and I said "Yes I Do"
They replied "Well You Need To Stop"
Outlining that doing so will negatively affect my bones ability to heal.

Went on to say that this will include vapes and patches.
Which is odd because someone previously asked me if I wanted a Nicotine Patch?

Through my own quick research, I can't seem to get a definitive answer...
As to whether smoking weed is a good idea in the long run, although it will help with the pain.

I read that smoke itself attaches to your red blood cells
Which makes it hard for them to get oxygen to healing spot
And that the act of smoking anything does nothing to help the bone reform
And may actually be bad for it healing?

Drinking alcohol as well is a grey area which I'm not too bothered about.

I'd love to roll a Zute now lol but not sure if I'm actually doing my bone healing more harm than good
    So...yeah ???

Yea I broke those exact bones a long time ago. It was clean so I didn't need metal rods or anything. Smoking anything may have a slightly negative effect on the healing process especially if you are older. However developing an addiction to the pain meds they prescribe is realistic, which is why I kept smoking bud during recovery.

You may wanna invest in some crutches with additional padding, because eventually after months of being on them your arm pit skin will get really irritated and burn. Showering is gonna suck. You'll need one of those handicap seat things and a wand you attach to the shower head. Wrapping the cast in a garbage bag every time. Dealing with severe muscle loss with your leg in a cast that long is unavoidable. When they finally cut it off it will look like a chicken leg with a shit load of dead skin layers.

It's gross and you'll do physical therapy. I used a cane for a couple weeks, mainly because it was fun to beat the shit out of my friends with.

How did you break them if you don't mind me asking?

Anyway I feel like I at least now know what to expect somewhat.

This helped, thanks for the info.
