Default Which Wu-Tang Clan Member’s Debut Would Succeed in 2017?

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" (Rev. 3:15-16)

    I'd go with :

    1. ODB (voice experiments, playfulness etc fit in with today's rap climate, which is not to say I consider Dirt a mumble rapper!)

    2. Ghost (doesn't sound dated, no overarching concept either)

    3. Raekwon (high class gangsta rap)

    4. Meth (murky soundscape holds it back)

    5. GZA (overarching concept holds it back)

I love all of these albums to death

Just trying to look at it through today's rap scene

the debut I personally still play most often is Ironman

    Id say:

    1. OB4CL
    2. Ironman
    3. Liquid Swords
    4. ODB
    5. Tical

...ODB's rap style for 2017 for sure is the best fit but I don't think most of the beats on that album hold up in 2017 very well. And Tical is entirely too dark for 2017.
If they included Bob Digital I'd put that towards the top.

    1. Ghostface - Ironman
    2. ODB - Return/36 Chambers
    3. Raekwon - OB4CL
    4. GZA - Liquid Swords
    5. Meth - Tical

Gza's and Meth's album would be underground classics for today.

I think ODB would blow the fuck up as a character in this era. Can you imagine his shenanigans with social media and camera phones? He would be carrying the rap game if he could stay out from behind bars not to mention his debut album was dope as fuck. Shimmy Shimmy Ya would be everywhere but I'm not sure the rest of the album would take off in this era, the album would sell but I doubt it would have the same ccritical acclaim but it wouldn't really matter. If I put my Charles jones hat on and say that all ODB would need is to get albums with dope beats and he would be set

As an album I think it would be Cuban Linx. Rae is a boring cunt though and his interviews suck but that album would be shitting on the game from great heights because hard body rap music fits in any era. It might not sell as much as it should but I can see it making a lot of AOTY nominations.

Ironman would be a close second to Cuban Linx. Like gangsta rap the soul samples would fit in any era and I think both of those hold up today plus Ghost has much more of a personality which would get him sales and exposure on that strength some. These two stand up to today IMO

Liquid Swords would be the underground album of the year but GZA is too quiet and withdrawn which would hamper his exposure. It would definitely be a niche album though with a lot of 10/10 scores just nobody checking for it. It'd probably sell 20,000 sadly. It'll be the album in 10 years people pay $100+ for the vinyl

Tical would make a lot of slept on honourable mention lists.
