    Just bought a new iMac, been like 10 years with the old one, been using a external hd with time machine set up. Should I restore my new one with that? I really only want my music n pics to cross over. Everything else is old/outdated programs. Really don't want to waste the space.

    Well if you just want music and pics to cross over then theres no need to restore from time machine. Just move it over manually shouldn't be much hassle.

    I never really used time machine with my Mac's. Never had any problems.
