Default Mister Yo - Club Canibus

good god damn. another Mister Yo full length?

i posted this in hip hop shop as i seen MENES do it and either way thats what i used to do when i first started dropping but fuck it.

here it is Mister Yo's fifth official release. the beats were handled by a handful of people and they are all mentioned in the sound cloud track description, my Outro track, and on the track titles when you download the tape. fat shout out to everyone involved. this is what my hard work has amounted to and i couldnt be happier.

give it a listen let me know what you think. maybe next tape i can get down with some producers from this site. dont know why i havent done that yet but yeahhhhhhhhhh check it out!!!!

Mister Yo is doing big things sun sheesh. he now has official merchandise. will work on getting that picture up but thats the least of my concerns whats important here is the music.

    enjoy!!

Been bumping this for a few days now, as you know. Become pretty well acquainted with it.

I did have a few concerns when you were working on this joint, mostly with you using several different producers, and also I was expecting more guests (I feared there'd be too many), and then of course I was worried there might be too much of the sexy, whispery flow you'd been using in a lot of recent tracks, lolz. Honestly I feel pretty silly for having doubted you since hearing the album. Your albums have been steadily getting better, and without getting ahead of myself this one's looking likely to settle in as your best yet.

The beats on this joint are sick. Really fucking great mix and really well sequenced as an album. Everything on here fits really well. But at the same thyme there's different vibes and the various producers bring their own flavour. And yeah, you pretty much nailed the approach to each beat. You've got the sexy, whispery flow mixed in there, but as always it's pretty dope when it's mixed in with other deliveries. There's some fucking awesome traditional Mister Yo deliveries on here too, like especially in the joint with Cloudy I noticed today. Like just those changes in inflection and shit. I've always loved that.

When I first heard your shit I basically just thought you pretty much ignored the beat with your flow, cos it's so unconventional. But I've come to pick up that you do actually seemingly use the beat a lot in how you arrange lines, and that your flow does seem to be driven by the beat. I think that is more evident on this album than with your previous ones especially. Maybe cos of the variety of different beats. But yeah, I really dig the way you flow over these beats.

Whole album is loaded with quality lolz too. And great use of samples and shit between tracks. It all flows expertly as an album.

Will run through a few comments on certain tracks...

1000 Knives - Was caught a bit off guard by this opener. Not what I was expecting, though tbh I have no fucking idea what I WAS expecting. But this is an awesome opener. Fucking cool vibe and lyrics, and great job on all the adlibs and shit. Great way to set it off.

Waxxxx and Boy Shortz - Two very noteworthy beats that set shit off on a different vibes. Really dig the way you flow over Boy Shortz. Classic Mister Yo bars in these jams too.

Goku in the Sun - Fucking love the way you start off just over the bare drums and shit in this and then the beat drops and that shit is sinister, sun. This track is one of the top highlights for me.

Lucy Liu - This track brings on the heavy lolz for this listener. Love the 80's/early 90's hip hop/r&b love song vibe of the beat. Fucken great shit for you to get sleazy on, hahaha! And man, you completely sleazed right the fuck out at 1:45, hahahahaha!!! Love the shit. This track is an awesome addition to this album. Good move, g.

Hydrangea/Cherry Blossoms - That cool sunny day outdoors vibe. Reminds me a lot of that song from NM where you flowed over that shit you said was from Pokemon or some shit. Another cool change of direction that worked really well. Shit like this is made for Mister Yo to flow over.

Father vs Sun - This is a weird beat and I think a lot of people would maybe hate it. I fucking love it. It's powerful. Dope bars too. That first change up in the beat is dope as fuck too, and keeps a similar sort of vibe. I need to get better acquainted with this track cos I didn't actually cotton onto the fact it was all one track with 2 change ups until I'd already heard it a few thymes. I need to have a better listen to what you did with this one. One thing though, that final change up is probably my favourite beat on the album. That is some seriously fucking creepy, eerie shit. I was listening to that the other day as I walked through the barren burned out bush, and fuck man, I just wanted it to keep on going. Just seen now that Noguano did that track. Honestly didn't pick that at all. Superb work by the little whoreson.

Untitled - Great idea throwing this accapella in here. Strong bars with full emphasis on the words. This is a pretty sick verse, homie.

IDEK - Just seeing who produced some of these tracks now. Noguano came through with the goods on this shit, sun. Another great change of vibe here. Another highlight for me. Dope bars and classic Mister Yo steez on the delivery. Love it.

Vandella - This is fucken sick story telling. Really well made track and one of my favourites. Some funny as fuck lines in this shit too. 'These latest events I admit are nothing short of upsetting' for some reason provokes strong lolz, haha. Love the flow in this one too.

Suckaz - Wicked fucking beat. Ok, so Quid fucking ripped this shit. Dude should be signed. He puts most signed rappers to shame. Seriously impressive rapper, and there's not many out there. As far as the different flows you tried on this, gotta admit at first I thought it was a big no. Wasn't into it at all. But now I know it's coming I'm getting used to it and it maybe adds something in a positive way. I'm still undecided. The audiobook flow is definitely your thing, but I understand you wanting to try other things, especially qwhen you've got another dude tearing the beat apart like Quid did here. As a whole I love the song, but I might need some more thyme to get a feel for your different flows.

090517 - I've got a lot of atmospheric Soup Bone beats that I've put aside for tracks like this, but I've never attempted to do one. This is a cool, mellow closing after the intensity of Suckaz. I really enjoy it.

I know you wanted that bonus track for this album too, so it was a good idea throwing on there as a bonus. Def worth skipping the outro to hear, haha. Always liked this track.

    A couple of final thoughts...

So you've clocked up about 55 minutes before the outro. For me that's the album. That's pushing into unacceptable territory for me (lolz). But yeah, I don't think it's too long at all tbh. Every song on here is well and truly album worthy. I don't get bored or lose interest at all.

Fuck me there was something else I kept remembering I wanted to mention as I went through those songs and got continuously interrupted by cuntstomers, but it's gone now. Hopefully I'll remember before the end of my shift.

Overall...Dope as fuck and very professionally assembled album. Definitely more than satisfied with this shit and look forward to giving many more listens.

Oh yeah, and I've already told you, but again, fuck you for not returning my shout out, hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hahahahahah.

yo i cant tell you how much i appreciate an assessment like this. but also yo, to think you were doubting me. wtf hahah.

i know this project took a lil while to come together but to quote Canibus "yo i cant call it motherfuckin wyclef spoiled it" or in my case noguano. lol. kinda screwed up my whole promotion hype train. but all in all with the project i couldnt be happier.

funny story about Father vs Sun. i wanted nog to do another interlude track like he had on NM but the kid just kept sending beats like the first two and im like no one wants to listen to that stand alone as an interlude why cant you flip a sick sample like you did before? nevertheless i liked those beats and i just wrote to em and it flowed. and we kept doing it for like two or three beats in a row until he finally sent that last part and said dude DONT FLOW OVER THIS ONE hahahah. oh well. i really like that beat too i think its too short as well but the bass in that one RUMBLES in the whip. as well as the drums in the first part of that track i was surprised how hard they hit, weird little pattern too mad props on that beat.

in fact this is a pretty hard hitting Mister Yo album compared to my other joints id say. like the drums in Boy Shortz are sooo boom bap they SLAP in the whip good god damn.

wow i cant believe how much i enjoyed being called sleazy. that is fucking awesome. ahahahha. that song went through a bunch of cuts it was crazy. but back to being sleazy cause it reminds me of this... that skit at the end of Father vs Sun that older dude (when my mac game is on) calls me Mister Don Juan Debonair... he keeps it a hundred.

and my god you are so right about Quid. such a shame, but the dude is still fucking doing it! hes about to drop a new album soon. in October i have gotten word... hopefully it comes to fruition. when it comes to me on that track, i just had to try something different Quid and i both agreed that this wasnt just going to be another one verse trade off track and we did a lil back and forth with me switching it up each time i approached. Noguano lovedddddd my verses on this one. even to the point where he said it sounds like some Bob Digi shit. i was flattered tremendously, i can see that but i also hear a young El-P by the way i pronounce some of them words and whatnot. i bet deep down inside some people are probably asking "what would Mister Yo sound like if he spit fast and aggressive?" well i dont really care to but if i wanted to it would probably sound like that verse... lol. would rather keep it OG with my own personal style.

you dont know how much my main focus is to piece together a SEAMLESS release. and im glad a lot of the comments ive been getting back mention how smooth everything goes together and the beat selection etc and what not.

that is something that is lacking everywhere in music nowadays but i can def see it when it comes to amateurs and guys like me. even on this forum and other forums. i guess its all just a part of being a narcissistic perfectionist but not everyone gets how to make an album, its not really as easy as everyone thinks. people just think about doing all these tracks and have no idea about releasing em or else just compiled all these tracks they did with no real aim or idea. smh idiots.

and hey man fuck you hahah ill get that shout out you just gotta let it come naturally, honestly im pretty damn sure i didnt do a single damn shout out throughout this whole tape... surprising as i was thinking about this the other day.

i could go on and on breaking down every track and the stories behind them and the woes and anger as well... it would probably make a good documentary... but who wants to hear about all that shit right now? hahah.

its time to enjoy the release. now and forever.

    hahahah.

and oh could someone STICKY this please? its deserving. i forgot who to ask... probz a mod

I'm doing loads of archival work at home on this dreary Sunday. putting stories in chronological order, typing up stories that have become semi illegible after one too many photocopies (not my stories). Meanwhile I got Club Canibus on constant repeat in the background. it's hypnotizing music!

it's still too early to single out particular songs since it's a pretty long album but overall I'm feeling this album a lot.

    gonna play it again now
    Retired.
