Thread: Ghost's verse on GZA's '4th Chamber' : lyric question

  1. #1

Default Ghost's verse on GZA's '4th Chamber' : lyric question

Vibing to Liquid Swords, put on genius.com to read along

now I always thought Ghost opened his CLASSIC verse with

'The only man to hold weight for'

as in weight = dope, like a low level street dealer selling dope for a bigger dealer who doesn't operate on the block

I thought that was connected to this line later on in his verse

    'The kid hold white shit'

but genius has it as 'The only man a ho wait for'. I listened to it again and again and they are clearly right

can't believe I was wrong all this time lol

anybody else used to interpret that line differently like me, initially?

as a non native English speaker you have the weirdest A-Ha Erlebnisse sometimes listening to wu songs years after they were released

one of the hardest songs in their catalog imo

EDIT : I clicked on that line on genius and now I see my interpretation is actually an accepted alternate reading / interpretation of the line?

lol so which one do you think this is?

I feel like a dumb ass for probably asking a question that was discussed in like 2003 on here

not to drone on, but I also hadn't really noticed the (now) obvious punch in of 'I ran the Dark Ages, Constantine The Great, Henry VIII' after 'Give me mine before Po wrap you up in so-and-so'.

It's definitely 'the only man I hold weight for'.

I rarely refer to lyric sites, but when I do for hip hop lyrics I almost always see lines that are wrong. You shouldn't take notice of it. I always favour my own interpretation over those sites.

Wu whole platoon is filled with

    A) Rap Koons
    B) Raccoons

That was/is something I can't place on Ghosts verse on 4th Chamber

I was always thinking on the drugs/'weight' interpretation.

Also got to say this verse is so amazing. I wish Ghost got back to those dark references. He sound like was on some other shit.
