Default Fuck it, I'm just genna post this 'ere

Spur of the moment thing. Been agonizing over whether this track is finished or not and what version I should put out for days now and I'm fucking over it.

This is my first full one man band track with a rap. I wrote, performed, recorded and mixed everything on this track. This is with real instruments (insofar as you can call an electronic drum kit a real instrument. It is one of the ones that's set up like a real drum kit, so the actual playing is very human, as opposed to pressing/clicking buttons or whatever). But yeah I played guitars, bass, keyboards, and drums on this joint. Really got absorbed in this shit, and right now this is where I feel I'd like to go with my music, so I'd like to know how people feel about it. Just posting once in general to put the word out that this is what I'm doing now (cos I know how much you all care) and hopefully get some opinions on it.

The new track is called 'Keep Breathing'. The older tracks on my page could use some work. I'll have to rework them some thyme if I've still got the original files.

Edit: My Soundcloud page is instrumentals only now. I posted an instrumental version there. The version with vocals is only available here now...

This is definitely an interesting route you are taking noel! I'm glad you went with live instrumentation, even though it must have been a hell of a lot of work

I dig the track. the instrumental's got a laid back, slightly melancholy feel

I was so focused on the instrumentation upon first listen that I'm gonna listen again now to really peep the lyrics

as for advice I'd say keep at it! An LP's worth of songs would take ages and you might lose interest, but a four or five track EP would definitely deliver the goods. also, with a limited amount of songs in one collection I feel like it should be easier for you to make it feel like a cohesive project where the songs fit together well, as opposed to just a random collection of tracks you recorded

just as a matter of interest, how long did it take you to write, arrange and record the song? Since all of this is a one man effort I'd love to find out

Thanks Lee. Appreciate u always taking the thyme to listen n comment.

I spent a few weeks on the acoustic guitar part. It was just a song I wrote. Went thru changes as per any song. When I started on the rest of it is when I really immersed myself in it. Got it all done in a week or 2, but really putting thyme into it, a few late nights n shit. I wrote the baseline I think in one night. Drums took a couple of sessions cos first thyme I didn't come up with anything useable. Spent a night on the guitar part for the 'chorus'. A night on the keyboard. And the solo I think I wrote over 2 or 3 days. The lyric I kind of came up with bits here n there, in my head, over a couple of days. Changed parts of it a couple of thymes too.

I did all the recording n mixing as I was going. Adding parts as I wrote them.

All in all it was a fucking big workload for a while, but something I enjoyed immersing myself in.

Ideally I would like to do an album, but as u mention it might b hard to make a cohesive album of it. Cos at this point I'm just going track for track here. Making an album would b just throwing everything together. I'm not really about that. But I'll c where it goes. No set plan at this point.

    Thanks again, G.

on the flip side you also have to think that even with what you are doing now a 4-5 track EP could also sound like an in-cohesive collection/pile of tracks.

time shouldnt be an issue. the amount of time i had sitting on 4 tracks was unreal before i finally finished up Club Canibus (almost a year and a half altogether) but i took my time stuck with it and saw it through... because thats what i wanted to do.

i also just watched a movie where a man was held captive for 15 years and once he got out, even though he found something else to do/someone to love, he still followed through on what he said he was going to do when he was being held captive.

you can always drop it if it gets too tedious or stressful... but it seems (according to your above post) that you enjoyed it. and this is def something to show people and to be proud of. imo. AND you did ALL the instruments yourself. some triple OG shit right there.

i like the direction of this style. it inspires Mister Yo to do a track in falsetto.

^lolzcore. Will b looking out for that.

Yeah thyme's no issue. I don't NEED TO get an album or ep out. Just not sure how I'd go about making one in this style. When I make hip hop joints it's simple. Pick ur beats, pick a theme n write ur songs.

When I write music I just go with what comes when I pick up the guitar n start playing. I don't say 'yeah I'm gonna write this kind of song' n then go from there (and I don't want to either). So it'd b hard to keep a cohesive theme or mood in that sense.

liked it a lot chief, particularly the music (nice floyd'esque guitar) - still have a bit of a knee jerk reaction to aussie hip hop, but i like most of your stuff.

^lolz I didn't mean it like that, but realised as soon as I posted it that it'd b taken that way, lolz.

I tried to rep u for ur reply here too, but same prob. I'm not in the habit of repping, but when I do it's usually the same 2 or 3 people so it usually doesn't let me, lolz.

Anyone got any suggestions for where I might b able to post this n get some opinions on it? Actually wouldn't mind trying to get this one out there a bit, and continue to do so with my one man band jams. I learned a long thyme ago that this forum is not the place to do that, lolz.

Rat faker, if u know anybody who might like this shit then spread the word, fam. Gonna put it up on unearthed when I get around to it too.
