I've been wanting to make this topic for awhile, now that I have some time I will. I first want to say that a few people that are on this list are very successful so I'm not in no way "dissing" them or calling them failures. This is strictly from a "Solo Music Career" standpoint. I'm going to drop two names a day.
Honorable Mention:
6. Shabazz the Disciple
- Definitely one of the best writers in the Killa bee camp, constantly kills guest appearances. His verses on Gravediggaz, Early Sunz of Man Material even THUG Angels are amazing. Maybe he has other ventures going on keeping him busy but I feel like he should've at least dropped 2-3 solo albums. Even "Book of Shabazz" doesn't feel like a proper debut album to me.
- Prodigal Sunn almost made the list but he saved himself with "The Spark"
Top 5:
5. Method Man
- Probably one of the most successful members of the clan. In My top 5 of the clan. But solo album wise it was kind of a let down. Tical is a good album, I'm still hoping they put out another version with better mastering. Besides that Tical 2000 which is good lyrically and great production was just filled with too much BS that the good parts were ignored, Tical 0 basically was a devastating blow to his career. I remember shows on MTV and numerous lists out there who had Meth in their top 10/ top 25 but after Tical 0 that was it. That shit was such a blow to his music career as a solo artist and he's never really recovered from that. 4:21 was alright, Meth Lab was weak.... He Even had Joe Budden taunting him, what made that worse was Meth didn't even give ANY type of response on the mic. Even Gza dissed 50 cent and Priest sent warning shots (check "Abyssinian Sword"). Raekwon & Deck had to come to his aid. He killed it on The Saga Continues hopefully that Math Vs Meth album does drop. Give us one last good album Meth.
4. Shyheim
- I'm basically going to go over what I said in another topic. This guy is supposed to be where Lil' Wayne was at from 07-12'. I mean this guy was very talented. Not only could this guy rhyme but he could act which a bunch of rappers are doing now and making way more money so he could've been very well off down the line. Back to the music, I feel like he started to decline after "Lost Generation" it's like as he got older he started to go downhill. There's an interview on youtube where he talks about him getting that scar on his face which he says started his transition to being a person who started "smoking, carrying guns, etc.."
This is an example of hanging the wrong dudes in your circle, I wish he could've stayed around more successful dudes once he got out of jail. I feel as though he could've been in a whole different lane. Now he's currently serving 14 year for a hit and run which resulted in a death.
3. LA the Darkman
- I hate even typing this. This guy dropped one of the best debut albums in the Wu camp and half the shit was recorded before he was even 18. This guy can rhyme his ass off. Easily a top 5 Killa Bee. I just don't understand why this guy only has one solo album. He's another one who's very successful so I get it, you don't have to rhyme anymore. But you have Willie The Kid who is LA's brother who is continuing to drop heat left and right there's no way LA can't do a project with Alchemist or someone else. Instead we get all of this trap shit that he sounds horrible on. His last good mixtape was Return of the Darkman Pt. 2. I don't really care for his new shit. He also has a style that could've very well went mainstream with the right direction. He can still rhyme today better than most if he really wanted to but who knows.
Come on give us some more shit LA.
2. Killa Sin
- This guy could've been #1 if he actually started something. You want to talk about wasted talent. Undoubtedly the best member in Killarmy this guy has dropped numerous classic verses on the Group albums and guest appearances. But for some reason he just can't seem to stay out of jail. No solo album to show for it and when he was finally working on his first official so what happens? Gets locked up again. Sad.
This is one of my favorite verses from him. 9th Said that they were at this mansion party and this dude kept trying to test Sin, but sin let him off. "On the Strength of ya Wiz I let you Slide/ Savage 85 Try to test I true and Living/ 32 shots I'm sending a rock into ya prizim"
1. Inspectah Deck
-What can I say about this guy? He's probably the godfather of most underground hip-hop acts. Most of these underground rappers are STILL trying to compose rhymes like Deck, so many have tried and failed. Even here in the audio section on this website you can hear it. You kind of want to give him a pass because of the flood but STILL. US is ok but we expected SO MUCH more from this guy. Every album afterwards has just been average for the most part. Beat selection is not that great, he doesn't even rhyme on that level anymore, far from it unfortunately. There's an interview were he was saying he didn't want any Rza beats because they sounded like "Ghost Dog" beats. LOL. Nowadays he's doing albums with his college roommate.
He sounds bitter as fuck about his solo career in this interview this sealed it for me
