To get rid of weeds use a weed killer fertilizer, or just spot spray trouble areas.

There are a lot of different kinds, depends what you are dealing with. But be careful you don’t want to spray when it’s over 80 degrees it’ll burn the grass.

I do the scots weed and feed in late may, then I spot spray thereafter.

The weed and feed is pretty effective for the dandelions but spot spraying is more effective on lover and oxalis, I find. I still have some oxalis spots but it’s been hot so I haven’t hit them yet.
I did Scott's weed and feed twice this spring. May have to look into using something else. It didn't too much to control the clover I have growing. I am going to use Milogranite next time fertilize. Is it basically sewage sludge rendered to become fertilizer? That's genius.

I contemplated waiting to put the weed and feed down because clover and oxalis come up later than may. So I think that’s part of the problem with weed and feed but then if you get some dandelions you want them dead.

    Anyway, just spot spray now.

Why not use MILO? It’s relatively cheap 16 a bag(used to be 7 dollars 3 years ago). It’s something you want to do long term to see results. Lawn will be a deeper green, thicker, lusher more drought resistant as long as you don’t hack the grass down

To stop or curb weed growth you shouldn’t cut your grass too short. The thick lusciousness of the grass will stop weeds from germinating?

Yes that is correct. And always mow taller never hack it down. Between 2.5 and 4 inches for northern cool season grass.

Dooch, a bit under a year ago I quit my job as a 'cashier' and became a landscaper. I enjoy the work. I'm planning to start my own business and have already done several cash jobs on my own, and enjoyed great success with the structural stuff. In terms of actual horticultural stuff I'm totally learning on my feet, which is pretty scary considering I could wipe out somebody's whole garden or some shit.

Just saw the thread n thought I'd share that.

Good for you. A guy like you would like that job. Outside all day, own your own business work at your own pace. There’s never a shortage of people who don’t want to do landscaping.

Yeah man being outdoors all day is an enormous positive for me. I also enjoy really hard, physical work, believe it or not. So that def works in my favour. I'm enjoying learning about plants n gardening too. My girlfriend knows plants really well n we go for daily walks around town n I try to ID all the plants we see. Come a pretty long way since we started doing that.
