Wu-Tang Clan Sued for Copyright Infringement: Report
A ’60s soul group, the Diplomats, claim Wu-Tang’s “People Say” infringes on their 1969 track
Wu-Tang Clan has been sued for copyright infringement, TMZ reports. A ’60s soul group called the Diplomats claim that Wu-Tang’s 2017 single “People Say” infringes on their 1969 track “I’ve Got the Kind of Love.” According to TMZ, the Diplomats note similarities between “the melody, lyrics, and rhythm” in the two songs. The group is seeing damages and wants Wu-Tang to halt sales and further performances of the song. Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Wu-Tang Clan for further comment. “People Say” was produced by Mathematics, executive produced by RZA, and features Redman. It appears on Wu-Tang’s latest album, The Saga Continues.
