^i surfed stationary waves in the canals in Munich, which is the same sort of thing as a flowrider, and being able to surf in the ocean doesn't really get u anywhere. I don't know that one is harder than the other. They're just completely different things. In the ocean you're moving with the wave. With a flowrider the water is rushing rapidly against u. It's a completely unfamiliar feeling for a surfer.
Once u get the hang of it tho, being able to surf does of course help. And I've heard of Pro surfers who visited Munich n ripped it straight up. But who's to say they didn't have experience with flow riders?
From what I recall, and I don't even recall where I heard it, most Pro surfers who have had a dig in munich were hopeless.
I surfed one of those waves for hours, n I got the hang of it, but I was still kooking it pretty hard. It's pretty much like learning to surf again.
I've actually got a short clip of myself surfing there, somewhere, lolz. At least I did. I should c if I can find it n post it, lolz.
chea that makes sense about the different skill set
I have vids of me doing it too lol. the first time (years ago) I did way better when I had more time to get used to it. Just recently I tried again at some Casino water park and couldn't stay on my feet for 3 seconds
I've always really wanted to have a go at one of those flowriders. I was fascinated by them when I was a kid and the first one popped up in texas and was all over the surf magazines. I've still never even seen one in real life.
Holy shit, it's the god!!!
Damn, I still had a decent head of hair back then, lolz.
Munich is cool cos the waves actually change. Like it was really shit at that spot from the pic, when I was there. It was mostly just whitewater, as per the pic, and you had to wait for a bit of a face to open up, like that little window just behind me.
The main, bigger wave is further upstream. That's where I went first, and made a bit of a scene and basically got told by a local to go to this smaller wave downstream, lolz.
