Default SPIN: Liquid Swords ASIDE, does RZA have a better solo disography than GZA? I Say YES

Im not gonna lie. i think so.

The reason I say LS aside is because each was 50/50 responsible for it and if we tried to talk about this yall would just goto LS.

IF gza is truly the better mc he should easily be able to defeat rza. But I dont think he is.

Lemme explain. When reviewing albums and decidingwhich is better I fall back to what i call the illmatic rule. See according to most enthusiests, illmatic is a 5/5 hip hop album festuring 9/10 5/5 songs... people say it is the greatest EVER so since albums like cuban linx have like 16 10/10 tracks its hard to compare albums. So what i do is take the ten BEST songs from each album. If the album has 10 5/5 songs and 4 0/5 songs i dont punish the album harshley. But if an album has 20 3/5 songs vs an album that has 5- 5/5 and 4- 4.5/5, im giving it to the latter. Anyway. Let me show you why i feel this way.

Bobby digital vs beneath the surface

    in sterio

    BOBBY - 3.5
    Love Jones - 4.5/5
    NYC EVerything - 5/5
    Holocaust - 4.5/5
handwriting on the wall - 4
    Myblovinis digi - 4.5
Kiss of the black widow - 5/5
    domestic violence - 5/5
Fuck what you think - 3.5
    Daily routine - 4.5

    rhymes - 3.5, production - 4.5.

    Beneath the Surface

    amplified sample - 4.5
    beneath the surface - 4.5
    crash ya crew - 4.5
high price small reward - 3.5
    hip hop fury - 4
    1112 - 4.5
    victim - 4
    publicity - 5
    stringplay - 3.5
    mic trippin - 4.5

    lyrics: 4.5 , beats: 3.5

WINNER: Its close but BOBBY DIGITAL edges it with a few ESSENTIAL wu shit in domestic giolence, black widow, nyc everything, holocaust.... those songs are CLASSIC wu shit whereas a lot of BTS while lyrically sharp, is a lot of smart rhymes without much emotion. Its a very cold album which fits the space synth vibe. Rza is more talented beat wise over the guys used on BTS like john the baptist, arabian knight, and an upcoming math.

digital bullet vs legend of the liquid sword

    Digital bullet

    show u love - 4.0
    glocko pop - 3.5
    must be bobby - 5
    brooklyj babies - 5
    do u - 4.5
    fools - 3.5
    black widow pt 2 - 4.5
    build strong - 5/5
    the odyssey - 4.5/5
    the sickness - 4/5

    rhymes - 4, beats 4

    Legend of the liquid sword

    Sparring minds - 4.5
    stay in line - 4.5
    animal planet - 4.5
    knock knock - 3.5
    Fame - 4
    fam members only - 4
    Auto bio - 3.5
    uncut material - 3.5
Legend of the liquid sword - 3.5
    Highway robbery - 4

    Lyrics - 4, beats - 3.5

This one to me is way easier. Digital bullet is better than legend by quite a bit. While gza hasnt really lost a step, he ladks some oomph and a lot of his songs sound similar. Rza changed it up a lot on here with an ecletic mix of music. Nothing on here screams CLASSIC from gza while BUILD STRONG is my fav rza song ever snd one of my fav su songs ever period. Brooklyn babies, blsck wifoe 2, etc snd its really no contest ino. I was a lil generous in rating some of those gza scores. Can prolly take every score down atleast .5 on every song.

birth of a prince vs grandmasters

    Birth or a Prince

    See the joy - 4.5/5
    the Birth - 5/5
    cherry range - 4.5/5
a day to god is 1000 years 5/5
    koto chotan - 5/5
    the grits - 4.5/5
    The grunge - 4
    The drop off - 4
    Ch kung - 4
    fast cars - 4

    rhymes - 4.5, beats - 4.5

grandmasters (only 11 songs might as well do em all, no room for error...)

those thats bout it - 3
destruction of the guard - 3
    exploitation of mistakes - 4
    general principles - 4.5
    advanced pawns - 4
    queens gambit - 4
    all in together - 4.5
    Unstoppable threats - 3.5
    U protected pieces - 3
    illusory protection - 4.5
    smothered mate - 4

    Rhymes- 4, beats - 4

Idc what anyon says. BOAP is better than GM. grandmasters is dope in its own right but gza is just rhyning.. not reallh about anything. Hes not doing anything new he hasnt done already while rza dropped some goddamn GEMS on this in SEE THE JOY , the birth, day to god, cherry range, etc. yea theres some real trash on here but rza could pull off the commercial sometimes. I actually think we pop is dope and def think hoodrats at the end of it is dope.

    digi snacks vs pro tools

Not even gonna go here. Pro tools is way better than digi snaks even if its only a 3.5 mic album at best.

    I got it 3-1 rza.

    What say yall.

Gza has the best discog of any Wu member by far, imo. He's the only one who's actually good at making albums. Rza's good at making albums for other people, but his own solos r a mess, which isn't to say they're bad. They're just severely over inflated and all over the place.

I listened to boap the other day and realised rza isn't good on the mic at all, and he doesn't mix his own vocals well. By that I'm not saying he's not a good rapper, just that the delivery and finish on his vocals is fucking rough at thymes. Perfect example is that song on boap that starts 'toxy off the grey goose vodka'. Actually unpleasant to listen to, tho it's a dope track.

GZA's discography is way better than RZA's. I can't even stand most of RZA's tracks on his albums. There are some classic, of course, like The Birth, My Lovin' is Digi etc, but I can listen to GZA's Pro Tools without skippin any track (maybe only the one with RZA)

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" (Rev. 3:15-16)

    Gotta go with GZA.

For my money, he’s never dropped a bad album. RZA has had some fuck ups.

Noel. How can you say gza head and shoulders makes better solos than the restbof wu?

imo dude is like 5/10 solo wise. Ghost abuses him. Rae has cuban 2 and some solid albums that easioy compare; meth got 2 great duo albums , 2 great solos and a dope solo.

Idk. I find gzas albums as boring these days. Same flow. Same conceots (the whole labels/publicity/fame/etc shit shoulda ended at publicity or animal planet at worst) , mediocre production, etc. i love him but he lacks the style of ghostface and honestly rza drops more personal songs.

Say what ya want about “lyrical” skills

    but ill take

    domestic violence
    build strong
    the birth
    odyssey
    love jones
    etc

over gzas “perfect” rhymes. Gza very rarely gets personal or goes in depth. Mostly its scientific/hip hop blend using the science rhymes to link with performing ie. “Bobby said fuck spending 50 on a whip. Buy equip. Mental flip got a thousand tracks stored on a chip... split snd seperate drums like asteroids...” “pyroclastic flow buried under tons of snow..”

rza hits that style as well as super personal, as well as commercial styles, pop, hardcore. Etc

i think hes a way more complete mc in the 2000s era.

The ten songs i picked on boap are way better than the 11 songs on GM. bonby dogital and BTS are tye closest albums but again, nothing on BTS screams classkc to me while b digi got like 3-4 wu classics. Digital bullet rips apart legend of liquid sword. Half that album uses same flow on 90 percent of songs and the songs lack any real rythym/head nodding factor. Notbing on it tou hing must be bobby, build string, etc. just not happening.

All GZA’s albums are classics with the exception of WOTG and LOTLS. RZA got none..

I say gza's discog is head and shoulders above the rest of the clan because his worst album is still good, and the rest are great to classic.

I don't care if Ghost has 2 classics. He hasn't done anything good since. Overall based on the accumulative average of each of his albums, which is the fairest way to decide such a thing, he'd prob have just about the worst discog. Rae's is second best, but still nowhere near as good as gza.

I don't think any other clan member's discogs r even worth comparing. I don't think ghost's is either, but I know people always will.

I know im in bizzaro world when dudes say gzas albums are head snd shoulders better than ghosts... said noone ever. Yall really lack soul on here. We’re gonna have to work on that if we gonna get this place in tip top shape.

The original versions of bpw, pretty toney and fishscale by themselves are better than gzas last 3 albums combined. ifact id take big doe rehab, appollo kids and 12 reasons over gzas last 3 albums

lotta people saying gza but aint noone naming any of his classic songs. Prolly cuz they dont exist and blinded by nastolgia.

Rza takes this one ez. Im tellin yall. Take liquid swords out ya rear view and judge objectively. Its waaay closer than yall think.

^lolz, u're pretty much on ur own, dude. I respect ur opinion, which u're most entitled to, but most Wu fans like gza's albums.

This thread took a dive when u pulled the old 'original versions' of ghost's albums thing. Who gives a shit? His post SC retail albums range from disgraceful to ok. U cant base someone's discog on ur own versions of their albums.

Also u can't just pull ghost's best albums to go up against gza's, cos that'd b ignoring the fact that Ghost has a compulsion to put albums out just for the sake of it, and as a result has a whole host of mediocre releases. Even if u did just pull his best 6 tho, gza's discog would still b far superior imo.

As for the rza thing, u're on ur own, bro. Look at the poll. If u feel that way then cool. But don't act like everybody else is trippin'.
