I think there's way too much emphasis on Ghost. Especially for a show with potentially 9 main characters. We've seen 0 of dirty's story which is dumb in the long term because he's going to die and plot wise they have to make it matter. He's just like a floating commentator. For as interesting a person as method man is and how important his 'interestingness' was to their success, they sure as hell never show him. And they're playing up the 'conflict' between them way too much. The fact that many of them were friends before wutang is important and every time I saw a conflict scene this last episode (which was an unnecessary episode) I got the 'ok i get it' feeling. Why would Raekwon come and talk shit to Method Man about how he's making money selling drugs when Method Man has a job and Raekwon is sleeping on a roof lol. I know they want retroactively force in that method man was some sort of unrealistic dreamer thinking he could be a rapper but it comes off completely illogically, especially since Raekwon himself starts the series rapping lol. I think the actually interesting plot points (ODB's decent into drug use and insanity, and the conflict to come within the group, the personalities of the members) are all being subdued by bad plotting choices

You can tell it's from Rza's perspective and they want to emphasize the payoff when he brings them together, but it shouldn't be done to the point that all of their personalities are 'embattled ghetto nigga'. I think the guy playing Ghost is a good actor who has never seen ghost face in his life. Ghost's personality is a major staple in hip hop as a whole, it's really weird to me that he's just playing Fredro Star. At first he was cool but now he needs to chill the fuck out because we get it, you're an embattled ghetto nigga.

The girl playing Rza's sister is good, the Divine character is was more alpha than I could ever imagine Divine's actual crossed ass but I'll roll with it. The highlight is still the kid playing Raekwon and the criminally under utilized character playing dirty. I have a REALLY hard time believing ODB was just casually hanging out and reacting to things as opposed to setting the tone of wherever he was..but I guess it's hard to write 'odb' in a linear story line.

And the way they're rapping is fucking annoying. Not only are these kids wack AF, when they're capable of sounding like they have heard rap music before, the sound like modern NY rappers. The song ghost did sounds fucking ridiculous for it's time and for ghost because it's literally a 2002 Onyx comeback song.

Also, where the fuck is the Gza? Wouldn't it be more compelling if you have Rza being an embattled ghetto nigga due to his brother's influence, then his cousin comes in and shows him an escape through music? I know they're trying to force it that Rza just loves music and believes in it, but why would you neglect the 'why' if the 'why' is also the story of another important member? The whole 'All In Together Now' story, going to other boroughs and battling, then going back home to complete shit would show why Rza is in the mind frame they're trying to say he's in as opposed to them having him make lame dialogue blerts about how he believes in music.

Also, knowing that dirty will eventually die, you think that would be something they wouldn't neglect so that there's an actual payoff when it happens. Method man didn't want to be in the streets and was extremely proud of have a lame job at the Statue of Liberty because it gave him a sense of self worth. he has said this a million times. The showed this by having Dave East's olmec ass in a manager uniform then in crutches talking about 'i gotta move in with rebel'. Ok.

which they would have had time to do if they leaned off ghost and divines nuts. You dont think fans would be more interested in Gza than Rza's mom's sister? lol

^ GZA was shown in the third episode I think and he'll be in the next ones.

By the way, the show is supposed to be based on some facts from Wu history but it's not biographical show (as far as I'm aware) so I stopped giving shit about the story lol.

I'm not really into the story for the accuracy. More so the actual story telling it's self. The actual story has elements that would help the storytelling of the fictional show, like Gza's involvement, not developing other ppls stories, focusing too much of them 'beefing' and not focusing so much on ghost and divine. You can show trying to become a rapper is a pipe dream better than randomly having people that also rap shit on you when you're trying to rap lol. It's good but I'm seeing a brick wall ahead if they don't pivot away from a couple of the narrative issues they're moving towards.

How much more or good this series would have to be to get a part 2.

And I hope steve rifkind gets mention.

I finally got into some episodes. It's pretty good, and I think it has a lot of potential to get better in the 2nd half of the season and beyond. The fictional version is confusing my memory of the real history though. A few thoughts I had:

Popa Wu is in Central Park doing the speeches

The guy playing Power is literally doing a DEAD ON impression of Stringer Bell, mannerisms, voice and all. It fucking kills me every scene he appears in lol.

The guy playing Ghostface is not a strong actor, he's one of those guys where you can see the mechanics of his acting in every moment. Dave East is kind of wooden but I'll give him a chance to improve. ODB & Rae are doing a great job, the kid who plays RZA has his own interpretation but I think its working. I'm interested to see how they handle the other members.

I'm disappointed that they seem to be omitting RZA's Tommy Boy single, I hope they don't do that with GZA, they should give him a flashback episode to cover his Cold Chillin' era.

I think I saw Steve Rifkind in the cast credits as a character in one of the episodes, where was he?

Does anyone know who produced this cut from the Hulu show?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygrLEVOkcZs

I wish it was Ghost and the clan actually spitting deluxe bars on it.
This beat though is flames. If the next Wu album has this type of sound, you wont hear any complaints from me.

Sha they didnt even get to cold chillin/tommy boy yet. Thatll be next few eps

New episode basically tells us they going to ohio next season. I cant imagine they fit all that in the next few eps.

I dont think well see them form until end season 2 or season 3 the latest.

Shits a wutang deep dive. As a wu fan this blows a 2.5 hr biopic out the water. Im seeing way too many conplaints from so called hip hop fans fho. Wu always went over the general publics heads... this shit is mad deep...

Maybe I'm just being impatient, I don't think anything's wrong with the show but I'm confused on some of it's focus choices. I understand that they don't want it to just being a sausage fest with 9 male characters but, I really don't care about Jerome and Gloria. At least not more than I care about Gza.

its just they going for slow burn. They are showing a family dynamic; being rzas house was the spot, showing rzas family/struggle they go through is what brings them all together. His mom is very important to rzas story as he always tells of how she told him it was his last chance when he beat his attenpted murder.

The fact is it looks like we will see all of that which is sick to me. People seem to wanna watch this like a short movie and see all the highlights. I quite enjoy seeing the early dynamics between the members/their real life families. For instance, now it makes sense how ghost stayed with rza the longest post forever.

I have full faith they will turn it up story wise with the other members soon.

I think its just difficult to see the vision at this early point. A few of the reviewers have said that episode 8 is where it starts to click into place, as they get more into the music side in that episode. Looking forward to it.
