idk much about RZA's stuff post- ABT (maybe a beat here and there on random projects?)
but ABT was terrible music. Unlistenably terrible.
The consensus was that it was average:

Even subjectively though, I'm guessing that if you go to youtube and watch a few Khaled videos right now you'll agree that it would be an insane move to have that guy involved.
RZA most recently produced that Miley Cyrus song with Ghostface.
He only produced the Ghostface bit. That's a far cry from Wu-Gambinos
You're close with RZA, do you ever bring up this kind of thing or would it ruin the friendship?
I don't mind a bit of Bobby Digital style or a bit of the bluesy guitar stuff for some variation but most fans would agree RZA's beats should have a much grimier, more sample based sound than they have over the last 10 years.
Brought it up many times, but it's a few things. He's tired of doing the same thing over and over, makes him feel stagnated, like he's not advancing, not really making music. Also, the constant sample clearance issues are just too expensive, whether you clear them legally or take the lawsuit hit afterwards. Sampling also cuts into your publishing value, so your deals are less because you own less of a song when you sample, sometimes the sample owners take 100%. But he's got those grimy beats laying around, loads of them. That's the most frustrating part. Luckily he put out the Presidential MC one. I heard that back when he was filming that Jake Gyllenhaal / Jennifer Anniston movie. So he can still do it, but I guess he's tired of digging through crates, sampling, truncating, pitching, etc etc. He doesn't use the ASR anymore so that sound is kinda gone as well. 4th sold his Yamaha that produced most of his early work as well. I got a bunch of TrueMaster digi beats that are absolutely doodoo. So i guess that sometimes they just venture into a particular sound thinking it's a natural extension of their craft so it will translate equally. And that of course doesn't happen. That's where Bronze and I come in.

So Ringz, you got hold of Golden Arms yet?
Make it happen
I am fine with anything fully produced by you or Bronze Nazareth, even if it is not Wu Tang involved, we just want those gutter beats
Speaking of Wu and DJ Khalid...I recall during the 2 on da Road/Warcloud/Shyheim Wakeup Show interview, 12 O'Clock mentioned Khalid produced on the 2 on da Road album...that was way back
DJ Khalil maybe?^ 2 different guys and yes can be very confusing. Khalil is a real hip hop dude. Know he rolled with Soul Assassins some years back. I never wanna hear Khaled n Wu on the same track. That’s definitely a Rae move. Peace
I think a lot of the issues they have with Rings are cultural. Rings thinks wutang is one thing and the clan thinks it's another (and they're right) and Rza thinks it's both things (and he's right too but not as right as he thinks). Cilvarings is having a lot of the same issues Drake is having lol. They are both fans of American cultural products to the point of knowing it well and feeling a sense of belonging to it, but they don't know the 'underbelly' of a lot of the motivations that create these things are. So in Cilvarings it comes out as 'of course the limited edition album with one copy is a great idea and I paid you, why would you be against that, we're making history?" and Drake is tattooing living men's names to his arms because he likes them. Cilva sees wutang making history and says 'ok these guys are into making history lets make history' and drake sees ppl getting a bunch of tattoos of things they enjoy so why now. But those are all deep actions based on surface level observation, and I can see how someone from here can read it as 'some bozo shit' in both respects.
To Rza it's both but Wutang as a 'culture' and unit was barely Rza's idea so oddly it's not his place to say otherwise, he just had that idea vision and drive to monetize what already existed around him. The single CD was a genius idea, but it's a brazen move for an outsider and hence the kickback and confusion. A lot of the groups issues with him come from that i think. I couldn't imagine having a group of friends I grow up with, then one of them says hey likes monetize the shit we do and like and we go ok cool then they start adding people that cut their dicks off (that we've never met) to the group and saying they're the leader and we're soldiers. And stealing our money lol. Heavy bozoism.

Here's Raekwon of a Khalid track.
Pretty fucking boring

but better than anything on Rza's last to projects
Ugod pointed out what ive always known but never really put much thought into about the rza; and that is he basically sets a schedule, works on an album, and releases.
To say his production didnt get lazy around 01ish times would be a lie, he started just looping soul samples with None of the old 36 chambers flair. His digital work was what it was but never peaked with his old work. He needs to sit down and work on some classic beats.
I just find it strange when hes put to the test, he comes through.. UNLESS he in charge.
Ie. A better tomorrow was nOt good. Best song was the single and title track. Seems like only ones he put mad work into. Why was ghostdog so good? Cause jim jarmusch told him he wanted old wutang back and made him work. Afro samurai? Same thing. The kanye tracks? Same thing.
This here showed me rza still had it but its like he aint focused on music, whatever it turns out to be after a few sessions is what it is.

Still has his sound mixed with modern tracks. He seems to have more faith in recreating samples than just doing it himself. And i gotta say those sample Recreations on abt were average at best. Preachers daughter? UGHHH. The flood really hurt him in the end. Once those joints from the past are gone it is not easy to do over.
the thing I don't understand about the sample clearance debate is.....how are people like Madlib, DJ Premier, Griselda (Daringer), Roc Marciano, ect ect ALL still releasing amazing sample based music and RZA can't. I understand legally and monetarily its much tougher these days. But if RZA actually wanted to, I'm sure he could.
Hopefully since he's been making wack beats for 15 years he'll start to feel stagnant with that too
I wonder if RZA ever contemplated releasing beat tapes of his old stuff at some point
