I like Kanye's music but I don't like religion so I was never gonna be too into this one.

I think its his worst album yet but if you're a fan of Kanye's production and the unique moods he creates then theres some stuff here to like. He reunited Clipse too.

The lyrics are worse than usual because its so one note on the "PRAISE JESUS!" aspect, and its a gimmick. He'll abandon this whole christian shit by the time he comes out with another record.

There actually are a few decent beats on here. Sonically, not the worst thing I’ve heard but Kanye just RUINS every track. His performances are terrible on every song.

And yes, I agree they Kanye will jump on something else once this Christian rap doesn’t do well enough to keep him in the headlines.

That track that was posted was alright!

IMO Kanye isn't wack. He's all round rapper/mc/producer, Which isn't easy to do.

Dude needs to pull his head in and get off all that celebrity BS (Along with Jay-Z). Real rappers have no business in the mainstream IMO.

Kanye has always been a horrible rapper. I'm even beginning to see that he's overrated as a producer. He knows what sounds will awe or impress people but in the end it's just mediocre and you can see from his lack of replay value. Weird or dramatic sounds don't equate a good beat.

like the poster ShaDynasty said, this is a gimmick. He was fishing for something that would stick last year and nobody cared when he was going to do 'Yandi'. He tried having a 'manic episode', then he tried 'beefing with drake', then he tried 'being pro-trump' (which killed his black-already christian fake woke fan base) now he's 'all about jesus'. He's a public nuisance at this point.

im a huge kanye fan. still am.

and, myself, as an artist now, but growing up, Kanye was one of my biggest influences. but it wasnt just because of his albums, at the time i'm talking Graduation/808's time frame mind you. i just liked Kanye for being himself and doing things different. even the whole CD, LR, Graduation trilogy honestly i wasn't a huge fan of, i think he has way better work. but Kanye being involved in fashion and making shoes, the nike air yeezys at the time, and etc etc that shit was dope to me. plus him being outspoken and doing whatever the fuck he wanted was ill.

i think his beats are great and i think he has always been elevating the game by doing something different... even though he started out with the sped up RZA vocal soul samples and what not. lolz. he has always done what he wanted, and like y'all said this jesus is king christian shit will pass just as fast as it came.

look how quick the MBDTF era was over, where he was super into film he even made a short little movie for MBDTF which i thought was dope, but hes never done that again lol. he hasnt even gone back to any of the styles he touched in MBDTF, really. maybe slightly but not noticeable.

there was a little tape leak before jesus is king with some fucking BANGERS on it. but it was all like demo quality short bits and pieces. i thought that was gonna be Yandhi. im having a hard time locating it. it had some feature with xxxtentaction and rihanna and a few other cats, beats were fucking WICKED. the type of shit i have been expecting Kanye to drop after the tapes from his stint in Wyoming.

this joint was cut from Ye, which i really enjoyed like half of the tracks. the first track, I Thought About Killing You, being one of my fav Ye tracks ever lolz. but this shit goes hard. that track above with lil pump was also cut as well too i think, i really like Kanye's verse on that too lolz. shit is funny. flow is cold.

i really hate hearing people say Kanye cant rap. Kanye dont give a fuck, his schemes are super dope imo. and hes got some super ill lines. its just if you like the style or not. i could sit here and quote dope Kanye lines and flows all day long. i think hes actually funny too when he raps, and aint many rappers got that.

Kanye really is one of the GOATS. and he'll continue to do whatever the fuck he wants, i hope so at least.

I agree with Mr Yo. Kanye has been responsible for a lot of shit I love and I think his music got better over the years. And he keeps it moving, hes one of the few who actually does something different each time he drops a new record. Its difficult to say the same about most artists.

Even this album is growing on me because the production and vibe it gives you is something unique. The production is really something else, I know you can give some credit to Mike Dean, Timbaland etc but at the end of the day those guys would never even try to make a record like this by themselves.

I definitely disagree that his music lacks replay value.

I can say that Kanye west influenced a lot of things, but lets not act as if he came around and thrived in an era that everyone was going way out of their way to no be original. Other that carry over producers from the 90s and stubborn backpackers, who has done anything other than trap beats in the mainstream in a decade? If he comes and makes something otherwise what do we get pretending that it's actually unique? Like if everyone who was wearing a red shirt cause they think it's going to make them more money and I wear a blue one, you can say I'm innovative, but if 5 years ago everyone had a different colored shirt, then I'm just being slightly contrary at best.

Kanye West has combine and amplified the sounds of his influences which is cool, but I'm not going to call it innovative just because 'make something that doesn't sound like what's popular' is a weird thought for people now. He also uses stunts and antics to sell these divergent sounds so I can't even say he did it and he's successful as a merit.

Is the album Jesus is King a 'thing', or did he start a cult and start saying slavery was a choice so now we're talking about that album he made? Because that's been the cycle since at least his second album.

The worst part..dude doesn't even make his own beats. He tried with the 7 albums things but most of what came after his first album were collaborations or straight up other people's beat. I really think he wants to be what Pharrell more or less actually is.

You make a polished Rzay Pharrell beat and start talking about 'i'm a dick suck i like a nip tuck I like a dick suck i like a nip tuck' for 10 years straight..idk how people can be interesting in this very boring person.

nowadays a lot of his beats are collaborations. but i still know the guy can rip on the MPC or whatever.

idk how he is boring. i think he's been manipulating the media and acting crazy for the longest time. idk if hes really mentally unstable or egotistical. but i like it. not only did his music and flow/rhyme style/bars influence me, his attitude influenced me as a youngster and that is def something that was and still is different about Kanye.

TSA talked about red shirt blue shirt. well back during CD era, how many rappers were reppin polo's and LV back packs? i remember that was a huge thing during that time and that was all due to Kanye.

hooking up with Kim Kardashian was not a good step in his life imo. i think that has a lot to do with all these episodes he's been having.

i mean you go from having an issue with some sort of depression or anxiety medication, supposedly, probably cause of his wife, to immersing yourself into religion and hosting sunday services.

how tf is that not interesting.

    lol

right now im sure everyone is wondering wtf is Kanye's next album gonna sound like? and when are the Yeezy basketball shoes gonna drop.

as long as Kanye is still saying shit like "she got a smart phone but a dumb ass" or "if she suck seed thats a success" or "if i fuck this model and she just bleached her asshole and i get bleach on my t shirt ima feel like an asshole" im always gonna be interested.

idk if mainstream music was ever meant to be different. its just trends that get followed even as far back as the 80's. all the mainstream rock bands sounded the same, shit even in the 60's everyone was shredding the guitar like Jimi and making acidic/drug influenced folkier jams.

shits a joke, always been a joke. early 2000's everyone was trying to be Brittney and NSYNC in the pop aspect of things.

theres an underground for all these types of music and that is where your going to find the different artists. like hip hop wise Busdriver is one crazy ass lyricist but like is that ever going to be mainstream? no.

is what i do ever going to be mainstream? no.

and i like to think what i do is actually kinda different. but just like Kanye i have "combined and amplified my influences" but i go way outside of rap when it comes to that. leading me to not be everyone/anyones cup of tea lol especially in the rap world. def not ever a mainstream option for sure.

something new will come up in his life and a completely different album from jesus is king will be the result.

You must be interested to even write this. He's more interesting than anything else in this subforum otherwise you'd post about something else.

Some of what you said is inaccurate, like he can still make beats solo, and even on the collaborative stuff you have to give him credit because its stuff that wouldn't exist otherwise. Its whole fully produced songs not just beats that have a sound that sounds like Kanye and not like any of the producers involved.

I'm surprised you think he sounds like Pharrell in any way. Listen to the recent Tyler LP if you want to hear what somebody trying to make beats like The Neptunes and RZA sounds like.

The Neptunes have always been Soul-Jazz oriented, very smooth chords, often major key and synth driven which is nothing like what Kanye does. I don't see it, RZA is a better comparison just because of him switching up his production style often but keeping that gritty soul influence in the mix. Kanye was actively competing with guys like Bink and Just Blaze back when he broke through so they might be an even more direct influence.

I think getting with kim is the best thing he's ever done. It's one of the reasons we're still talking about him, and thats what he exists for; to be talked about. Not to rap, not to make beats, nothing else. All of those things are a part of the hype machine but it's not the objective. I didn't even know you were talking about him as a rapper. In that case, someone that doesn't write a word of his rhymes and is still boring is a pretty lame uneventful rapper.

idk if you understood my shirt analogy but when Kanye came out every beat what doot-doot-snap, doot-doot-snap, looped and the bass comes in on the fifth doot-doot snap. In fact, it was literally called snap music lol. So then here comes this guy who has sped up samples and different patterns on his songs with Too the Wire as an example. Then everyone starts talking about how it's crazy innovative and different. How? Everyone not knowing how to tie their shoes doesn't make me a genius because I can tie mine. I can't think of any producer that's considered a legend that Kanye can rank face to face with, but he gets put in the category with them and it's annoying.

Then, you now hear that he doesn't make his own beats, doesn't write his rhymes, so that he can have time for publicity stunts. I'm cool breh.
Honestly, people in the past 15 years have gone out of their way to make hip hop a joke. It's a joke now, but they still want to talk about participants of the joke like they're serious because they're the top of a pack of gram thots and TMZ lizards.

Lil Wayne had the same effect. He peaked when people were going out of their way to not rap well and not listen to people rapping well, had similes and now people who will never go back and listen to his music 3 months after it drops try to take him seriously and force him into conversations about credibility
