If you guys haven't been listening to the synth wave scene you are missing out. In the last 5 years there have been a lot of great analog synthesizers released. Also, people are building analog module rack synthesizers that are complex.
There's a lot of amazing music in this genre.
I think synthesizers can be implemented well and blend into hip hop. I think future hip hop music will involve more synthesis and go analog and be more a live performance instead of just loops.
this is a new album by Belgian DJs Dewaele Brothers (who also have the band Soulwax) made of only 30 SYNTHI 100s left in the world. they got to 'babysit' on one of them for a year and made a few projects on it (the one that dropped now is only the first one). all sounds are ONLY based on this SYNTHI1
the album can be streamed and bought, but I can't tell you how it sounds since I don't have streaming services. it did garner very good reviews in the national press
I'm not familiar with synths AT ALL but apparently this SYNTHI 100 is legendary
I thought maybe both of you would be interested in this from a musical instrument perspective. this singer / musician LA Priest built his own drum computer, called it 'Gene' and made his second album using it. the album (which dropped yesterday) is called 'Gene' too. it's not hiphop though

more important for you might be this : there's an online virtual version of this drum machine that you can access :
This woman's skills are incredible. Her synth part on the seaboard is impressive and makes a synthesizer sound like a guitar. It looks like she did a lot of the synthesis on that right monitor.
She basically does a hit track all by herself live. More talent than 90% of signed female music artists.
I also love the live looping livestreams online. Lots of really good ones using the Boss RC-202. Look up Reinhardt Buhr. His live loop performances are incredible.
