Thread: How do yall listen to the radio?

Default How do yall listen to the radio?

they're gonna off the FM frequency in Belgium in 2022. it will be dab+ only (digital signal in Europe) . it's been happening to a few countries already, like Switzerland

do you listen online exclusively? if so, on what device mostly?

I had a look at some 2018 figures for the US https://www.nielsen.com/us/en/insights/article/2018/how-america-listens-the-american-audio-landscape/

I hadn't expected so many Americans would still be listening to the radio. I was thinking mostly in cars maybe?

are there any plans to off FM in the us too? and is AM widely used there? I would think so.

just did a quick count at Casa Incandenza and it turns out I have 6 radios. yeah, I was surprised too lol. none of them will be any good from 2022 onward though. I wonder what they'll do to the fm frequencies. leave them to local stations or radio enthusiast? or just quit them altogether? AM isn't happening for me because the reception is practically non existent round here. unless I take an apartment on the 60th floor all I get is static

if you're not in the US, how's the situation in your country? I read the UK might make the switch to DAB+ in just a few years too

I use it in the car. I used to have XM but my commute time is nothing anymore so it’s pointless to pay for it.

Recently Dish has stop carrying the channel that has Cleveland Indians games, so I had to buy a radio so I could listen to it at home.

i basically haven't listened to terrestrial radio in about 15 years. i have sirius/xm and 99% of the time that's just for the howard stern show. every once in a while i'll listen to Lithium on there. i don't typically listen to howard live though. i have the app and download the show the next day so i can skip over interviews i don't care about and maryanne from brooklyn phone calls. the show has gotten bad in the past couple years though. i've considered just cancelling my subscription.

if i'm not listening to stern, i'm either listening to a podcast or streaming music.

the radio in my car is set to a jazz channel. regular radio is so bad, that if for some reason, my bluetooth doesn't connect, i'd just rather listen to some smooth jazz than some top 40 morning zoo dj.

Yes Howard was the only reason I still kept sirius. 101 was my favorite.

It’s funny how mainstream and accepted he’s gotten.

I figured he would fall off the older he got.

I miss angry Alice and Artie going at it. Or Ronnie vs anyone.

Most mainstream tv and radio is just subliminal brainwashing by the Illuminati.

very recently I started getting back into radio shows, completely unexpectedly. from quiting regular tv (about ten years ago now) over listening to albums to tuning into oldies radio shows I have now ended up listening to 'serious' radio talkshows and classical music, jazz and Rat Pack music. I am getting very old indeed. I can appreciate things that calm me down instead of things that rile me up now, I guess

mind you, only last year I was listening to Black Sabbath records at breakfast before facing one of my toughest classes in years at school.

TLDR : went from unfunny to plain boring.

    Signing off, grampa Hal.

I can’t stand the whiny music of the youth anymore. I also have turned toward more uplifting and relaxing music.

The other day I was in the car and had a rock station on and in this song the artist started off with some verse about “slinging coke” that let into some complaint about his father.

I just don’t relate to any of that. And if anyone still does at our age, they probably have no credit.

^ Although age does change your taste, I have to say Radio and music TV are literally the worst possible places to find new music. It's pure lowest common denominator garbage. It's the only way radio and music TV channels can operate and also the reason why they suck so much. Streaming basically fixes that problem because you pick what you want to listen to and then it does a pretty good job of guessing from that point.

pretty sure there's some niche porn featuring Belgian octogenerians smashing barely legal blondes with so so tight puzzays

in fact I'm gonna pitch that to Kool Keith's manager so we can squeeze another decent concept album out of him at long last
