(CNN)Riggs and Murtaugh are reportedly*set to ride again.

During a producers roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Lin revealed there are plans to do another "Lethal Weapon" sequel.

Lin, who produced the*"Lethal Weapon" TV series*and the films "The Two Popes" and "The Lego Movie," knocked on wood "so I don't jinx myself" as he said it.

"We're trying to make the last 'Lethal Weapon' movie,"*Lin said. "And (director Richard) Donner's coming back. The original cast is coming back."

"And it's just amazing," he added. "The story itself is very personal to him and to the cast, and so I really want to make that one."

Lin's been trying for several years to make it happen, he said, and writer Jez Butterworth is working on the script.

"Mel (Gibson) and Danny (Glover) are ready to go, so it's about the script," Lin said. "I wasn't part of the other four. ... As a fan, I want to help to make it happen."

Gibson's rep confirmed to CNN that he's on board. Reps for Glover didn't immediately respond.

The "Lethal Weapon" buddy cop movie franchise kicked off in 1987 and followed the adventures of police partners Martin Riggs (played by Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (played by Glover).

The last film, "Lethal Weapon 4," was released in 1998.

A "Lethal Weapon" TV series that didn't involve the film's stars*ran from 2016 to 2019*on Fox.

I hate these nostalgic continuation movies that are being made. These franchises had their time, no one wants to see old men trying to pretend their still action stars. You can even throw Bad Boys 3 in there as well.

^ The worst idea is Indiana Jones 5, if they'd have made it 5-10 years ago maybe they could have made up for the crystal skull bullshit. As it is, assuming Harrison Ford survives the next year until they're able to film it, he'll be 79.

Yeah there are so many other movies that could be getting made/being done properly? Instead their spending all their money rehashing all these old franchises.

Now with social media good old fashion entertainment is dead IMO?

Wonder how it'll turn out, if it can rekindle some of the old magic.

If this isn't mainly a comedy movie, it's going to be a fail.
