I'm gonna peep her other singles on YT and see if the album is worth tracking down. I just listened to 'Recipe of a Hoe', very CharlesJonesy.

@ hotnikks : bahamadia deserved more label opportunities, this track is nice.

I checked out the info on her first album. the production credits are crazy! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kollage_(album) Definitely an album I'm gonna have to listen to

trying to look for other cuts to post here I came across an article that mentioned a biopic about Roxanne Shanté called 'Roxanne Roxanne'. I guess it's still on Netflix (2018 Netflix production apparently)

anyway, 'new' track for this thread :

somewhere in between singing and rapping, her voice reminds me of Neneh Cherry.

    found an interview too

^^her interview starts around the 5 minute mark

Boss was one of the more popular female rappers for a time in the 90's. I remember charles jones had mentioned before that he's a fan. lol I think some people got upset that her lifestyle wasn't what she portrayed in her music, and she kind of disappeared after that.

Yeah, just like most rappers. It sucks when you find out that rap is just as fake as Hollywood.

After reading this I did a little research. It turns out MC Serch produced and probably wrote the song I posted along with another track from the album.

It's still a decent West Coast style rap album, no matter if it was all a show.

that nonchalant track is hella dope

nice production work too. doesn't look like B.L.A.K. Productions did many other tracks unless they split up and became solo producers

should I know these producers from anything else worthwile?

I don't like female rappers who act like strippers. I like female emcees who take the craft seriously, can switch between rapping and singing. I still think Lauryn Hill was one of the best female emcees ever.

I think Ms. Fit would destroy most guys in rap battle.
