I had this version of The W. And a few months later, I had Bulletproof Wallets with exactly the same problem.

Both albums were disappointing at first for me and those mistakes made me feel that quality of music was in the same tone than quality of the product, and maybe it was time to buy anything else than every Wu releases !

A wise man knows his limitations.

    Cilva?
I believe it was posted here, if I recall correctly. I may be wrong though.

    ^^yes, it was

wasn't it so that there was something wrong with the last track on that boombotix speaker, which is why you couldn't listen to the song in full on there. dumb thing at that since it was one of the selling points of that speaker

I think Artsdradamus has those boombotix and can tell us for sure

I love the One Blood track.

I actually have the original Junior Reid One Blood.

I have lots of reggae 45's too.

I have the Capleton Method Man - Wings of The Morning record too. A 40cent bargain.

The guy that gave us Ice Cream Part 2 was responsible for the removal of Shaolin Finger Jab? Damn. Would love to hear that instrumental though.

Haven't looked at that album, the original with the sticker, in a while. That sequencing is totally different. Would love to hear that directors cut of the album. Actually, I'm amazed nobody has done such a thing with music. The only thing we get is these cheap ass re-releases with a few b-sides, remixes and instrumentals.

And the Bullet Proof Wallets thing, yeah. Another fuck up. That was a magnificent album ruined by sample clearances.

^^I'd love to see them start doing 'Directors Cut' type things with albums... releasing original versions, etc. I doubt the Wu will ever do anything like that though.

It's the 20 year anniversary of The W in November. I'd love to see RZA re-release the album as a double disc... first disc the retail version, second disc with the original sequencing and missing tracks, etc. I know it'll never happen, but I can dream haha.

Same with Cuban Linx II... I'd love to hear RZA's original version of this, with State of Grace, etc. but it'll never happen.

    Peace!

I've been kicking this idea around for years now. And I can't phantom why nobody has done it. When 'Ye did TLOP with just an online version, and it kept getting updated. I was like hey!, now here is somebody who gets it. You can release an organic album and keep updating it. But when all was done, that really wasn't his point. Digital platforms offer loads of possibilities in this. Another example that I found was a bootleg of Yandhi on Bandcamp. And the person that uploaded it just kept updating it with new leaks. Which is another one of those options. But nobody really seems to make use of it.

Back to the Directors Cut. Combining the digital and physical space, you can easily create a Directors Cut. For digital, you don't have to go in production. And for physical you can go into production after you have the orders. And I think the added value of something like this, like your example with a second disc, is way more than a collection of Carefull Click Click remixes.

You know which album really need this though, I Am... Nastradamus. Instead of re-re-releasing the same shit over and over and over again, Nas could have gone back and released another epic.

Agreed 100%. The possibilities are endless, but they're not being utilised at all.

I would love to see a lot of hip-hop groups/rappers do something like Bob Dylan did with his official Bootleg series of outtakes, stuff that didn't make his albums, live stuff, demos, etc. Paul McCartney also has a massive Archive Collection series ongoing, he tend to re-release 1 or 2 of his solo albums per year but in massive boxsets with 3 or 4 discs of extra material from the vaults.

    Why don't rappers do this???

One avenue I did like is what War Porn (Sick Jacken, Everlast, Divine Styler) did with their mixtape/album a few years ago. Most of the songs had massive samples which would either never had been cleared, or would have cost too much to clear... so they released the album for free online, but dropped a line of clothing and merch at the same time and toured. So the music was free but they made their money from the merch and the touring aspect of it.

This is something I think Wu will never understand... they can't clear a sample so it just gets removed from the record and sits in the vault. Why not put that shit out online for the fans to hear? Can you imagine if RZA started going through his vaults and dropped a load of stuff that never made it to the albums, or was taken off albums, or just unreleased shit... drop the music for free alongside a big clothing and merch line and a big tour to coincide with it. Shit would be crazy!

But unfortunately most of the Clan are stuck in the 90's way of releasing music/albums.

    Peace!

Better yet, give me the reels and tapes from Rza's flooded basement and I will do a forensic level restoration.

Video and Audio Cassettes and Reel to Reel Tapes
If there are no master copies, dismantle the cassette and wash the tape on its reel with lukewarm water. Support the tape vertically and air dry it, or air dry by laying it on absorbent sheets. The box can be air dried as well.
If the reels are dirty, remove the tape and wash the reel with detergent and water. An alternative is to replace the reel. Return the tape to its original box, after the box has dried.

Unfortunately, most hip hop people are extraordinarily myopic and have nowhere near the level of forward thinking to be able to do something like this.

hiphop artists seem to think that when an album is done, IT'S DONE. The album IS the legacy, no need to add anything. That's how they think. Archival releases as in rock music (Dylan was a great example) would ADD to the legacy imo AND would bring in extra cash (if we're not talking uncleared samples). How many special anniversary edition albums do ypu know in hiphop? Nas' debut got the double disc treatment. First example that comes to mind ... that's about it

Prince's estate is currently caking big time off the archival releases : cleared live bootlegs, rehearsals, outtakes and concerts.

Core fan bases in hiphop would lap that up too. Take no risks : make limited runs if necessary, with fans having to order in advance to reach a number of copies worth producing

    endless possibilities.
