The great information purge continues: streamable have been deleting pretty much everything from the 2020 USA riots that showed the violence and looting, millions of views worth of content form the ground all gone. In 20 years those riots will be written as peaceful protests where marchers walked down the street singing koombaya and holding mass prayers lol

These social media sites are for entertainment. They are not providing a essential service say like At&t or standard oil that U.S government broke up. You can and most people have no reliance on social media to live a normal life. Acually ISPs are more of a monopoly.

Imagine being this much of a boomer and not understanding how social media has been impacting the world for a decade and continues to influence our entire day to day life.

It doesn’t need to be an essential service for it to have incredible impact on society lol you’re outdated and the worst part is that people like you vote

Imaging being an internet addict and having to be on social media constantly. Myself and plenty of others do not use social media or limit it to a frequent visit. They don't influence me. Where you even from? You sound like you do understand English to well? It has to be essential service for it to be considerd a monopoly not that it doesn't have a impact. Shit like Facebook are not going to be regulated because their entire purpose is to have people visit their site and then charge a business to advertise there. What are they providing to a consumer? What tangible product is there brainiac?

You're right. It's all entertainment but for some, it's a platform to voice their opinions/considers/news. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube (Google) have changed the world in terms of speech. In this case, Trump has use Twitter as a his voice to his base. The sad thing is people who're low IQ and uneducated will believe anything (Alex Jones, Trump, Tariq Nasheed, etc) only if it relates to their political views. I see this all the time on Facebook. Someone will make a post about BS and their friends will co-sign without conducting a quick fact check. It's not just Trump supporters, it's everyone.

Thanks, that explains a lot. Australia elected officals are probably intelligent and competent. So they serve in the best interest of their constituents and don't allow outside interest like lobbyists for big tech to line their pockets and direct their interest. Trusting government officials over a private business here is non sensical, his politicians are less corrupt, so he must not be aware of the fuckery ours create here

If you think Trump won because of his tweets, well you need to take a course on U.S. politics 101. There is a whole subset of people who vote D or R no matter who the candidate is. There is a small sect of voters who decide the winner. How did Obama and Bill Clinton win subsequent elections? They were able to motivate minority or usual non voters to get out and vote for them. Candidates like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton did not invoke any motivation for these same voters. Trumps tweets only serve to rally those who already align their thinking with his. Go ahead and find any data that correlates his tweets to gaining popularity with independent voters. His approval rating was absolutely dismal during his term compared to others.

What needs to be understood is. You want to break up Big Tech and their control. Good idea, but it is not like the acutal public is in control then. Big Tech then put in place lobbyist who pay off politicians to get what they want. This has been going on before internet was everyone's source for news. How many major TV networks, radio stations, newspapers are independently owned? Everything is controlled by a select few. Smaller government or removing money from politics is the only way to end this. That would be a monumental task considering average person does not care regardless, as long they are just trying to
live peaceful in their own existence.

You are seriously saying that his masterful use of twitter didn’t aid in him winning the most unexpected presidency ever? The only thing more astonishing than Trump getting up was Brexit. Everything Trump tweeted was not only read by 50m followers (at the time, 88m when he was banned) but then all the people that didn’t follow but who followed people that followed oh and not only that but it was broadcast and printed in every media across the USA and the western world.

Trump does not win the election without social media.
