Thread: What's the best thing that happened to you this year?

  1. #1

Question What's the best thing that happened to you this year?

obviously it's been a shit year. we've discussed it at length lol

so did anything good happen to you?

when I came up w/ the thread idea I actually had to think pretty long about my own answers since, well, the year was shit

I guess I can only come up with two things

    * I'm much more relaxed about my job and since I work with people (a live audience) they tend to become more relaxed around me as well. btw I'll be dialing down working hours too later on in 2021. not my own decision but it'll certainly help me be even more relaxed

    * my mom was very sick from February till July and they didn't know what it was. they located the problem in August (teeth issues influencing a lot of organs including kidneys - we had assumed kidney failure earlier on) and she is doing much better now

I'd love to have posted more spectacular things but it is what it is this year

    what you got?

Glad to know that your mom is better.

For me, just being alive and healthy is good. I recently accepted a new job offer with another company. Same industry. Oh, new laptop.

I kept my job and got 3 pay rises this year: one was the 8% pay rise we had been fighting for for months, the other was my pay rise for being there for 12 months and the other was my 4% pay rise as part of the yearly pay rise included with the 8% one which was back dated. My pay went up about $15 an hour between February and August.

2020 was a good year for meeting women. It started with a tremendously bad break up but I’ve had some fun encounters. I’ve put meeting women and just going out in general on the back burner to save as much money before I buy a place though.

i realize how fortunate i am. 2020 was actually a great year for me in just about every way. there were some setbacks, some deaths, some things we didn't get to do, but when you look at the overall picture of where some people are right now, i can't complain.

I had some extra time to do music which was good, but it wasn't a great year for me. Beyond the obvious, there was (still is) some family stuff and lots of long conversations with my girl.

I mean I still have a job, and nothing serious has happened yet but that all could likely change in the next few months.

I'm sounding like a real downer right now, but it is what it is. Next year will be better I think.

‘21 is going to be worse for a lot of people from the economic standpoint. The eviction Moratorium is about to run out, business are enduring another lockdown.

A different number on the end of the year isn’t stopping anything. The check has yet to be cashed.

You are of course right. Guess we're living on hope. I want to see where we're at in terms of the economy and employment rates by say the end of summer. Hopefully by then the numbers will be looking up again.

The shutdown actually was blessing in disguise for me. I would go to the sportsbook a night or two week to place bets have a few drinks and a cigar. They are open again but I haven't gone back yet. Maybe I won't, saves money and saves health. I guess what occurred was time off to reprioritize what is important in life .

Two cigars and four drinks a week? I’d say you’re entitled to treating yourself, cuz.

I proably go back soon. Maybe wait for football to be over and March madness starts. I got family at home so I feel guilty spending too much time there. Once a week with a set spending/time limit going forward would be a rational thinking.

lost my virginity, found a sustainable income stream outside of work, working to make it replace 'work', too much at home time, wasn't a bad year at all.

Our lovely and intelligent politicians are constantly back and forth regarding a COVID-19 stimulus package. The government has to provide people and struggling businesses with some sort of financial aid in order to prevent catastrophe homelessness and massive closures of small businesses.

We're some of the lucky ones as long as we're employed.

Christmas? Lol. With COVID-19 running super rampant and high unemployment, I don't understand how people are buying stuff that they cannot afford.

I just don't want there to be a high number of suicides in January '21.
