It pays in hip hop. But in real life it can be a struggle per Charles Jones post.

    Peace to the GODS

and yeah it pays to be stupid in hip haap. Every artform that's dependent of attention for money will eventually turn to attention seeking, though he's not a rapper so it doesn't count. Almost all rappers are industry plants now. I was able to see and industry plant contract because they were trying to get someone I know to sign one. If you read it you'll understand how fake hip hop has been for the past 10 years. Anyone with clout that isn't older than 2010 is 100% a manufactured concoction to get attention then sell a product and disappear or get a hit then get buried by the label so they invest 0 into you and get all of your streams etc and fine you if you openly oppose it after signing. It's some wild shit mang

Another person I know signed one, he had an authentically massive following. They took all his music down and were going to 'redo his image' into what is now G-Easy. It seems like they found a better G-Easy and now the kid can't release music or profit from his name. He's just in the tuck.

The nas x kid, Cardi b etc all of them are just Time Warner, the democratic part, and Geico trying to make 'influencers' and none of them make a dime. So when you see shit like this, it's not real.
US hip hop is 100% fake. Most of these ppl were struggling actors etc. The week Stitches got washed up cause he got knocked out in 2017 is the week Tekashi 69 showed up with the exact same shtick.

for details when you sign you don't own anything and can't independently operate your socials unless it's a part of a campaign. So a lot of these ppls 'spontaneous beefs' are being typed out by two people in the same room. You can't say what company you're signed to. You can't acknowledge them if they're mentioned. But you can say you're signed to a company you're not actually signed to. So someone that's 'signed to 300 ent' may actually be signed quarters195650 (they have names like that) but will be told to say 300 because 300 just sells the name.

They collect all the money that comes to you then pay you after. If you debate the amount you're being paid you have to give them 90 days to audit themselves before presenting you with the paperwork that shows you were paid fairly. If you want to end the contract early you'll never get your money/name/socials/masters if the contract is ending and you don't write and sign a specific paper in on the 10th day before the contract ends, the continues for another 10 years. If you stop rapping and get a 9/5 your paychecks go to that company first and the split is the same as what you signed your music away for.

Then if you use any 'profane language or behavior' in public or in your music they fine you. And they have to approve all of your songs before it drops and they can legally tell you to add certain lyrics (which is, i think, were we got all of those rappers advertising perscription drugs and 'luxury brands'). They don't fine you immediately if you cuss or act stupid and will actually encourage you to cuss and act stupid so that if you try to fight them in any capacity they throw those fines at you or when they steal your money they'll say it was fees for cussing.

The spam it out to 1000000000 indie rappers and if 10 sign they get what they want. So when Lil Nas X came out with his first song he's ever done in life and it's doing millions and he's dressing like a twink and has collabs with milly cryus dad and is on good morning America in 5 days of attempting to be a musician. It's obvious what time it was. Even the 'outrage' about the song is manufactured. Nobody cares.

Agree with TSA. Mainstream hip hop has become a joke. The focus is on shock value and trending on social media.

lol good point. It not so much them not being authentic, but the nature of the fakeness explains a lot of you understand the less-spoken elements of it. People jokingly say _____ is the WWF, but the level of truth to that is actually what's underestimated. How many people feel compelled to say their piece on what's happening on twitter based on what twitter manually chooses to say is 'trending'. There are entire identities (in the millions) built around twitter's engagement strategy. I've been interested in this shit lately, but it's a standard operation method at a certain point of earning. Everyone wants to control the up and the downs of their business and industry and music is not isolated from that. Previously they would find someone then try to make them conform to what worked for business. Now they're concocting people from scratch (similar to how pop was traditionally) and replacing music with trolling. Worst, the concoctions are in what has to be some of the worst written agreements imaginable.
