Happy birthday to the greatest sporting spectacle on earth, test match cricket, which was born on this day in 1877. The current Pakistan v Australia game is test match #2,455 and the recently completed India v Sri Lanka game was the most recent test match #2,456. Imagine baseball but it’s interesting that’s test cricket.

Here’s the scorecard for the first ever official test match: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/...full-scorecard

Australian won of course, never in doubt and australia continues to dominate the great game.

Here’s an interesting fact about the first ever test match: Australian batsman Charles Bannerman is officially recognised as test cricketer #1 for Australia, he faced the first ever delivery in test cricket, he scored the first ever half century and century in test cricket, he had the first ever not out in test century, he was the first ever player to carry his bat (when a player opens the innings and is not out when all 10 wickets have fallen) and to this day he still has the highest % of runs scored by an individual in a completed innings where his 165 not out was 67.34% of his team’s total of 245.

It was statistically proven that nobody dominated their chosen sport as much as Sir Donald Bradman dominated test cricket who retired head and shoulders above everyone that ever played the game. All the other sports have players who can be called the greatest but have second, third, fourth greatest nit far behind but test cricket has Bradman and then a significant stretch of daylight before you even discuss who could be second.
