Thread: Do you still buy DVDs?

Default Do you still buy DVDs?

My colleague who reviews DVDs (and gets his copies for free) says a lot of people still buy them. He is a real journalist (not a hobbyist like me) of many years and has ties to several of the bigger distribution companies, so I guess he knows the deal. He says companies would have given up on Blu Rays by now if they weren't still so profitable

I was really surprised to hear this. I sold my DVD player around 2017 or 2018 along with my DVDs. Do you still buy DVDs? Do you do it to amass a collection or do you do it for the extras?

Sometimes. Theres some stuff (foreign or obscure) thats difficult to find online or streaming. Or I just want it in high quality.

I've started to rip my DVDs to back my collection up, which is going to take a while. I like having the hard copy though, you never know when some stuff will become unavailable.

Last 2 discs I bought were Deep Cover & Smithereens.

Blu Rays or 4K Blu Rays? I rarely see DVDs these days. I only buy 4K Blu Rays.

yeah i still buy dvd's sometimes blu rays too, depends on which one is cheaper usually/available. i myself dont care about the blu ray to dvd to 4k ultra quality difference so i just stick to the old school shiz.

i do it for my collection, so i only buy the films that i think are really good that i want a physical copy of or if im out shopping and i see a good movie for a good price i will snag it.

fuckin. last dvd i bought was Vampire's Kiss for 3 dollars at a junk store.

but most of the shit i really like is tough to find hard copy or else its beaucoup expensive so i still d/l like a mad man because all of the streaming services suck ass and appear to really only be good for their exclusive shows.

there are a lot of collectors still out there believe it or not.

My eyesight isn't good enough to bother with 4K.

Gotta buy the DVD if the movie/tv show isn't available on Blu-ray or 4K

I do have a collection. But rarely add to it now a days. Usually only If there are special features, such as deleted scenes or audio commentary.
