    Default Pop Thread

Post your favorite pop songs and records, any era.

Also it would be interesting to see what new pop records are invading the wucorp consciousness, whether you like them or not.

I don't listen to a lot of big pop hits these days but good stuff breaks through - Olivia Rodrigo had a great debut album.

I'll start with a very laidback radio hit -

her first album was awesome and so was this single from her solid second album. it's really too bad amy winehouse bought the farm and duffy got raped.

I like early Joss Stone too (simply not familiar with her later work)

I heard those Adele singles too often on the radio to be checking for her albums, was I missing out? I mean she's kind of like the ladies in this post, but obviously not the same either

^^album was enjoyable but slightly over the top

^^me enjoying everything about this vid sums up nicely all the things that are wrong with me as a teacher lol

in pop I prefer listening to women over men, except when it's eighties bands

their later output (past album 4 or 5) is mostly a snoozefest - too many mid tempo songs - but the first few albums are really good. I think in the US they were a one hit wonder (not even with the above track) but IIRC from earlier Wikipedia searches these guys had a longer life expectancy on the British charts. definitely on mainland Europe too

^^from their meh first reunion album but this single is gold

I never really heard an Adele album either. Too much hype.

Amy is great. I love Charli XCX, loved all her recent albums.

Duffy's Mercy song was on the FIFA 09 soundtrack which got a lot of play time for me.

    Guilty pleasure song at work:

^ Great song. A bit of trivia - that song was shopped around and TLC turned it down.

I don't listen to much pop and it's mostly guilty pleasure stuff like the Britney Spears one but honestly Adele sucks, her singing is great but the actual lyrics are steaming turds, I don't really understand what's special about her besides the fact that she's fat and hits high notes

Jesus what the fuck was going on with that interviewer. Ask a teenager about her tits, and probably people didn't think it was weird at the time.

Neptunes ruled pop radio for a minute there. I think the stats said for a few years they produced like 30% of what got played on the radio.

    GOAT.

    And back to Britney.

One of the best pop albums of the year. Hal, you'd probably like it, very catchy songs with some Prince, Beatles vibes.

about to check this out, thanks!

I love me some stylish black and white 80s pop vids. some of those shots above!

this one is as close to an Anton Corbijn directed vid as all of those wonderfully (ha) filmed Depeche Mode vids, although Corbijn has more of an eye for the absurd

    ^^classic Corbijn two parter
