    Default Hidden gems

The thread for hidden gems and obscure classics that aren't well known.

This is a holy grail that's unobtainable, a Swiss band called Toad that's all killer guitar, self titled album from 1971. Hardly any of these are for sale on discogs and when they are they can go for upwards of $1k, way out of what I consider reasonable for a record.

Another killer axe shredder is Jerusalem's self titled album from 1972 which was produced by Deep Purple's Ian Gillan on the Decca label.

I've got a reiusse of this on its way for a reasonable price but once again originals of this are for sale in very scarce quantities, there's only 3 for sale going for 500/600GBP and 500Euro respectively.

Wicked Lady - The Axemen Cometh

I am not sure if this was ever officially released as an album or not, I believe the 2012/17/22 releases are just compilations of studio sessions from the late 1960s and early 1970s. Either way, killer killer stuff.

I am sure this is age restricted on youtube because of the album cover showing boobies.

    Great thread idea.

The first song alone is leagues better than Krokus, the only Swiss (hard) rock band I am familiar with and who are basically a cheap sounding AC/DC.

I'm gonna listen to the whole album now.

Toad definitely sounds British to me I had no idea they were a Swiss band until tonight when I checked to see how many original pressings were on discogs.

Aardvark self titled album from 1970, psychedelic, blues, prog all rolled in to one. This band doesn't have a guitar player (at least on this album) but it's great stuff regardless. I am not sure this ever got an official reissue, at least on vinyl anyway, once again hard to come by originals and when you do it's way too expensive. Another unobtainable grail.

Viejas Raíces - De las colonias del Río de la Plata (1976)

Argentinian jazz, jazz-fusion I guess? Stellar record. I got this from a local record store that it had up on the wall as part of the "staff picks essentials" and just the album cover alone caught me and well I am sucker for anything Argentinian so I grabbed this and enjoyed every second of it.

Shaolin Afronauts - Flight of The Ancients (2011)

Australian afrobeat/jazz/funk band. Not exactly obscure or hidden since they have nearly 1m views on youtube but probably not something the non-Australians here have heard. It's been a long time since I spun this record so I'll do that when I wake up

Haha I can't promise any of it is actually good, I have a basic ear for tunes.

I am contemplating buying this record: The Gun - Gun, 1968. Sounds killer but the store reckons it is noisy so only in G condition. I might take the risk anyway
