Default Junior Wols and Three Emcees collab

Working on a hip hop project with music by myself and raps by my Three Emcees brethren (Mister Yo, Sheep Lord, and myself).

Music is performed by myself on real instruments, but going for a much more hip hop approach than I normally would with my music.

This is the first full track we've put together...

    Album coming eventually.

I was just thinking all of yallz would be great at producing an excellent lounge/schmoov EP (think FNM doing pop covers, Fun Loving Criminals etc)

SHEEP and noel, I posted some example in the neverending N.I. thread to illustrate what I mean

I'm serious about this, from a listener's point of view I think it would work really well given your delivery (all 3) and the instruments noel knows how to play so well. there need not be any actual singing involved (unless of course you guys can sing as well)

Yeah I'm excited to work on it when I can find the time.

@ Mister Yo, I honestly consider all music I do to be experimental. It's just how I approach music. Everything I do I'm trying something different. I have so many ideas and things I wanna try, n so little thyme to ever work on stuff.

After my last solo album I had no desire to start on another one straight away, cos i knew it would just b more of the same. Which is cool n I'd have loved to do it, but i like everything i do to b something new n a reflection of where i was with music at the thyme.

Even now if i started a new solo album i think it would b much different to the last one. Doesn't take long to start moving in different directions. Unfortunately I don't have the thyme to even think about working on a new solo album right now tho.

@ rev, I don't know what kind of music you're talking about. I'll have to check out ur poast in NI.

Yeah I make thyme too, man. Every work day I get up about 2 hours before I start, n either just play guitar or work on recording stuff. Lately it's pretty much always working on recordings. But the way I make music, doing full band tracks by myself, that shit takes a lot of thyme. So between working on this n also a project I'm doing with the gf, it's slow going getting things done.

i suppose with a background of multi genered musical tastes anything you create will feel experimental as you are honing in all your influences and whatnot etc.

and after a while anyway i doubt any musician/artist/band wants to stay boxed into the same genre/way of creating music after whatever period of time.

but especially when it comes to you, your delivery, on the instrumental works of yours, has always been rap like, in structure and whatnot. so it is weird i never thought of the "experimental" word earlier.

i used to think i was "hip hop to the core" with the music that i created, simply because i rhymed and laid it over "hip hop" type beats. but the older i get and the more i write/create and the more i listen back to my, newer, music and the commentary i hear from people who dont like/listen/even know anything about hip hop. makes me rebuke that earlier statement at some ie most times.

i never cared for the term "experimental" when it came to music. but i also never cared to genre label my musical library to begin with. too many sub genres and groups/artists that dont particularly fit one genre specifically etc etc. so i have done away with all genre tags ever since i got my first ipod back in middle school lolz.

but i regress, i still do think this is/will be a good use of the "experimental" term music wise.

    and lolz.

aint that the truth brother, im glad i put my earlier works on wax as i could never write or say or think to say half the shit i said on those projects again. different frame of mind living a completely different life than i am today.

i try my hardest though to curate different sounds and incorporate different themes and say different things in a different way album to album. and that is with both my solo work and Three Emcees.

having listened to your projects for a while now, you can def hear the changes in mood from your lyrics and also the instrumentals alone. a good example of this is comparing Dreamless Sleep instrumentals to the work on The Way to the Palace. Dreamless Sleep being one of my favs from you but there is def a tinge of hopelessness and not necessarily giving up but contentment with being unhappy, i really enjoy that kind of stuff. but when you listen to The Way to the Palace, this listener at least, gets feelings of "completeness" a sense that things have moved on for the better, a sense of triumph at some times, and while the feelings from Dreamless Sleep still surface on that tape it is not a central focus.

i think it is a beautiful thing to be able to study an artists discography and actually see a growth and change that can be understood and possibly be related to. but that only works out when everything shifts for the better lolz imo as obviously that is something that will be different person to person. but the study can still be had regardless.

nevertheless tldr glad we are all still making music together.

@ Mister Yo, yeah genre isn't something I ever really think about, in regards to my music or anybody else's. I feel no need to slap a label on music.

Funny, my gf was talking to me the other night about these artists like Sheryl Crow and Amy Winehouse being labelled as 'blues' on whatever she was listening to (certain it would've been spotify), cos she wants to force herself to like the blues so we can work better together, lololololol. Anyway, I was like yeah, that's what happens when everything has to be labelled. I also pointed out that almost nothing I do is really blues at all, and that I would hate to ever feel like I was restricted by actually trying to fit into a genre.

Considering how much she has to hear me jamming over blues backing tracks though, I can understand why she thinks I'm all about making blues music, lolol.

Dreamless Sleep turned into a concept album. Basically about life being a cunt, lolololol. Palace was more just me enjoying making music. But it always gets steered in a direction once you start putting together a few pieces of music. To me that's still really a concept album, even if just in the way I approached making it and the way I tied it together.

But yeah, I see the changes in your music from album to album too. I think anybody who is passionate about making actual albums will always end up putting together collections of tracks that differentiate themselves from previous collections they've compiled. It's a reflection of that creative desire we have.
