Originally, they only gave 5 albums a 5 star rating between 93 and 2000, which shows you they were on some BS.
I only read the reviews for the articles themselves. the number of mics was always untrustworthy to me and I never relied on the ratings system
You will see me use '5 mic album!' as a personal way to express how good I think an album is but this is unrelated to the Source's ratings, I just use it as an expression

Meth did get hip hop quotable for his NYC Everything verse. By the time The W dropped, not everybody was enjoying his less slang style.

At least they recognized their initial errors and gave those two albums their five mics. I think people will eventually realize Gravediggaz's The Pick, The Sickle And The Shovel is five mics
D.M.X.'s It's Dark And Hell Is Hot deserves it's proper five mics..

The 2nd Gravediggaz is good, but it ain't 5. Close, sonically completely different, one could maybe say this was RZA's turn at the wheel. The previous one being Prince Paul. But it is still lacking something to make it 5.
DMX his debut though, that is 5 for sure. That album embodies everything that DMX stands for, and has aged superbly.
