This isn't new. I remember reading about this in a Source or XXL magazine when I was a kid.

Canibus was supposed to be on Caribbean Connection from Capital Punishment, but Wyclef couldn’t convince him to come to the studio, supposedly he was ducking Pun. Lost opportunity. Instead we got Wyclef’s corny ass on the track

Canibus wrote Wyclef's verse, so kind of still got him.

Only a few years ago Hip Hop purists may have felt superior listening to hard core while their less enlightened companions snacked on commercial rap. As Shaolin research began to point out the overwhelming benefits of raw production, true hip hop enthusiasts started turning back to traditional styles. Wu-Tang in particular, has been shown to myriad beneficial effects, from warding off ignorance and poverty to reducing the risk of incarceration and death.

Nore told a different story on Drink Champs. He said that DMX was the one who wasn't trying to let Pun up in hot 97 for the freestyle cypher with him and Canibus. But regardless it seems the story is legit lol
