Members of the Sub-commission on Quaternary Stratigraphy (SQS) have voted not to make Anthropocene an official epoch in Earth’s geological timeline. I need to disagree with their decision. Anthropocene (Age of Humans) was suppose to signify a period in the geological time scale during which human activities have impacted the Earth's ecosystems and geological processes.

Human activities such as urbanization, thermonuclear weapons tests in the '50s and '60s in various locations throughout the planet, the fallout of radioactive dust from nuclear power plant meltdowns and from nuclear weapons tests, the burning of fossil fuels (CO2) which has contribute to climate changes, and global pollution (contamination from industrialization) is substantial evidence that these events will have an effect on future generations. These impacts are irreversible and will remain evident in the rock record millions of years from now.

I hope that the subcommittee will reconsider.
