Best shit out the bay to me is Hieroglyphics... Jurrassic 5 is tight too. I listen to them Dialated People, Blackalicous, Too Short(88-96) and Coup.

I lived there from 86-2004. My favorite time for music from there was 94-97. Dush Tray, GLP, Dre Dog (Nickatina), Ray Luv, E-40, Mac Dre, C-Bo (actually a little north up in Sac)

LOL J5 is dope but it's kinda hard to understand the whole hyphy movement if you ain't really from here.

Personally, born & raised in East Oakland, the Village so i'm definitely into all the cats listed in this topic. Fuckin Hieroglyphics is the shiiit Del is one of my top 3 emcees of all time. But for me there's 3 camps of Bay Area rap, all of em good for sure. You got of course the hyphy movement: E-40, Keak, Federation, some Mac Dre etc. You got that inbetween gangsta shit: Yukmouth, San Quinn, RBL Posse etc. and then you got underground more intellectual type shit: Blackalicious, Hieroglyphics etc....

And I don't care what you say about the hyphy movement 40's new song "Tell me When To Go" is NUTS. Unfortunately E-40 went to fuckin Lil Jon for production on his new album so alotta the songs are wack IMO but Tell me When To Go and Muscle Cars (both with keak da sneak) are sick.
