13 was reserved for Edgar Davids, he would make his comeback at Ajax but on the last moment he decided that he not wanted to come back in Holland (yet).

Not many people know about this because Ajax didn't announced it official, but that there was already an number reserved for him shows how serious it was.

Your right, it's for the Dutch teams impossible to keep there good players with al the rich clubs hunting for them, but that's not only a problem in Holland but for every club with not as much money as Chelsea. Milan, etc.
