Why can't the avatar size limit be changed?

I think the avatar size limit is too small. I'm not saying there should be giant avatars allowed, but at least allow a little bigger avatar size. Hardly any pictures on the internet fit into the avatar size lime. And some of the ones that do, it's hard to even tell what the picture is.
