"Run on the track like Jesse Owens........"
nuff said.
It's been twenty-two long hard years of still strugglin
Survival got me buggin, but I'm alive on arrival
I peep at the shape of the streets
And stay awake to the ways of the world cause shit is deep.
-Inspectah Deck
true...but is it really better than Deck's verse on Iron Flag?
Aiyyo you know the half, some get respect, most we show the path
They quoted tracks while we spoke math, blowin fast
Expose the craft, first picks chosen in the draft
I don't flash, hoes love me cause I hold a stash
Known to blast, paramedics couldn't close the gash
Floatin past in an alley with the oak dash
Show the cash, watch it blow in half, it's no fair
They goin mad, check their tape recorders and their notepads
Crabs wanna play me close and grab
Can't believe you on the canvas, I'm just throwin jabs
Where the powers you supposed to have, hand in your soldier rag
You posin bad, show your ass son, you won't last
With heavy weights that elevate the whole mass
Compose a smash, rollin grass at Ghost lab
that verse is so sick...so many multis, its just amazing to hear.
The W and by a long shot. Iron Flag sounded corny to me. It was very upbeat and happy go lucky sounding. It sounds generic. Ghostface telling bush to sit down and all of that... I think more than anything it was the beats, the sound of Iron Flag that was lacking. The title track was great tho and I think there are about 2 or 3 other good tracks, but the rest are throw aways. Flava Flav and the reggae dude are annoying and Chrome Wheels sounded too west coast. Just a whole lot of problems for Iron Flag.
The W on the other hand sounds like a wu tang record. The guest spots come pretty hard. Busta , Nas, Redman all kept up.. Snoop was a nice compliment to ODB, not too bad there. The production was really good on THE W. Jah World and I cant go to sleep were experiments that worked well and Masta Killah's solo track was CLASSIC to me.
8 Diagrams is better than both of these, but barely beats THE W. Had Thug World replaced Unpredictable, it would be easier for me to say that. There are two mediocre tracks on 8D, Get em out ya way Pa and Starter also.
I like both albums but I have to say I listen to Iron Flag more and that's because of these three words...."Y'all Been Warned"....it should have been the lead single off the album!! Also the beat for "In Da Hood" is mad crazy. They both have their pros and cons that we all agree and disagree about that.If the best tracks from both these albums were an album of it's own then that's supernova right there!!
