Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies is a 1997 book by Jared Diamond, professor of geography at UCLA . In 1998 it won a Pulitzer Prize and the Aventis Prize for Best Science Book. A documentary based on the book was broadcast on PBS in July, 2005, produced by the National Geographic Society.
According to the author, an alternative title would be A short history about everyone for the last 13,000 years. But the book is not merely an account of the past; it attempts to explain why Eurasian civilization, as a whole, has survived and conquered others, while refuting the belief that Eurasian hegemony is due to any form of Eurasian intellectual or moral superiority. Diamond argues that the gaps in power and technology between human societies do not reflect cultural or racial differences, but rather originate in environmental differences powerfully amplified by various positive feedback loops. He also, most explicitly in the epilogue, argues that societies with food surpluses and high-to-moderate degrees of interaction with outsiders are more likely to encourage great people to realize their full potential and to adopt new inventions.

If you are in this section I know you have thought about this. Why the world is the way it is today. This book honestly answers a lot of those questions. It explains why "the white man" rules the world today, but by debunking the typical racist theories that some people suggest. He is maticulous in his details, if your really interested in finding out why things are the way they are, I really suggest this book.
The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

People are too stupid to effectively conspire to do anything, but not too stupid to come up with conspiracy theories.

It's a very good read but indeed overrated.

Abbot spit was reading Poker Without Cards by Ben Mack, but I stopped. I'll continue reading it another time.

I've also been flipping through the Mysticism of Masonry.

Default What should I read? (book recommendations)

What's good, Clansmen (note that it's spelled with a 'C'...lol).

I haven't been on this site for over a year...because I lost then refound my password and didn't want to use a different username...

the last post I made (I believe) was a request for recommended reads...

since it's an important post and will help me get away from my TV...I'm restarting it...

In exchange I'll list a few of my favorite reads to kick this thing off...

    * "the white boy shuffle" by Paul Beatty (my favorite novel ever)
    "Tuff" by Paul Beatty
"the Fuck Up" by Arthur Nersesian (I love all I've read from him)
    "The Bible"
"Captain Underpants" by Dav Pilky (I can't be intellectual all the time...potty humor's funny)

    What else is good?

    Thanks in advance

    anything by Iceberg Slim
"Da Mysteries of Chessboxin', first of all the word "mystery" means "unknown", you know, and the game of chess is like life, so in reality there is no mysteries to chess, it's just to those who don't understand life"- The GZA
