    Default Portishead is DOPE!

shit my friend sent me a few songs from em to use as like "ambient homework music", but they're sooo damn ill.

i downloaded the album Dummy and it's excellent. i'm feeling their style of music, and the girl's vocals are eerie as fuck, but they fit the beats well.

anyone else into them, or anyone else wanna get acquainted?

it's like instrumental music, but it kinda fuses together soundtrack music with hiphop and jazz and guitar elements. it's real real real dope shit.

kinda sucks that they only got 2 albums, even though they been around for more than 10 years now. well 2 albums, plus one live album.

anyways, anyone else feeling them? or know other cats that do the same kinda shit? these guys are too sick!!!

yeah "Dummy" is a great album.

i heard something about them releasing an album in the near future, not sure if this is still happening or not.

similar stuff.. i dunno dont listen to alot of it, i guess people call it "trip hop".

definitely pick up DJ Shadow - Endtroducing is you already havent.

    apart from that maybe Air?

i cant say i liked "Portishead" as much, half the tracks were great, and the rest just seemed irritating for some reason. "Dummy" is almost flawless though.

Yeah Dummy is basically perfect. The Portishead album is sadly not as good.

Mezzanine by Massive Attack and Lamb by Lamb are really great buys if you like Dummy.

    Also check out:

    Lamb - Fear Of fours
    Tricky - Pre-Millenium Tension
    Tricky - Maxinique
    Massive Attack - Blue Lines
    Massive Attack - 100th Window

Being from London and spending a lot of time in the Bristol area helps!

Yeah, a lot of stuff by Tricky and Massive Attack is very good.

Lamb are the ones that a lot of people haven't heard of but everyone who does gets blown away.

I'll up a couple of mp3s to give a taste.

As I'm feeling nice, I'll dub off my Massive Attack - Karmakoma EP vinyl tonight and upload it tomorrow. It features the Portishead remix (you won't find Portishead, Massive Attack and Tricky all together on a track ever again I doubt, so it's a rare thing to hear) as well as the Unkle one featuring DJ Shadow. Really dope record.

Holy fuck I think I gotta agree I just downloaded Dummy from the other thread in Wu-Chamber and it's dope as fuck. I'll have to go and buy this some time. I love triphop stuff and I've only ever heard of these guys in passing, but it's really good.

I reccommend the track "The Girl Who Fell Through Ice" by Aim on his album Hinterland If you like this kinda stuff. He's more like DJ Shadow than Portishead I think but you're on a Hip-Hop forum so you shoudl like him he's collaborated with Souls Of Mischiel and Diamond D.

    not on every track.

but mostly just because I'm a DJ, so instrumentals are always good for dropping acapellas over the top.
