i can be a bit of a backpacker at times but compared to the rest of this site im more open minded. I believe laffy taffy is just as hip hop as Aesop Rock. They're just 2 very bad extremes. One half is the insanely corny and chessy, the other half is the insanely boring and repeatitive, but just cause it's bad music don't mean it aint hip hop. A gross loaf of bread is still a loaf of bread.

Appreciate that... but thats just not what backpacker is.

Most backpackers will just lsten to their shit, most of the time in an iPod, and not argue whats real or not. All rap is real. The only times i argue is when people say shit like "Lil wayne is the best lyricist out" when he's not. Might like his music more, but hes not te best lyricist out. Ghostface is probably better lyricially then Phife, though I'd prefer a Phife verse.

Most "non-backpackers" are quick to pass off underground shit because they dont wanna be a backpacker, when really, it's what they're dying for. They say "hip-hops dead" without even listening to the stuff they wanna hear.

Backpakers are more likely to say "hip-hop can never die" then say its dead.

all these people criticise "backpackers" for supposedly being closed minded, and refusing to listen to commercial music just because it sells.

but in the same sentence they'll tell you that they wont listen to any of the that "nerd rap" shit.

from what ive found, most hip hop fans are just fucking stubborn.
