BLACK OUT
Written by Critique Allah
The Warren Ballentine show on 102.5 in Atlanta is calling for a National Black Out Day on November 2. Do not make any purchases on this day but please do not make any major $ amount purchases, 2 days before or 2 days after because then the Black Out will be of no effect. This is from the Warren Balletine show; they are asking their listeners to spread the word for those who may not listen to the show. This is the second phase from the Jena6 and many other cities and people of color are facing similar situation like the Jena6.

What is the significance of us as a whole not spending any money for a day? Will it affect anything? Will anybody notice? These are the questions Original people ask themselves every time we are asked to show that we are in control of our spending power. Every time, we deny our position in America and doubt who we are and spend money out of habit, which is mostly because we doubt ourselves as an individual who can make a difference. People think, "If I don't spend $20 on November the 2ND- what difference does it make?" If 10 million Original people all say that about their $20 as well, then that's $200 million that will continue to circulate in this country that day and all things stay the same. This is $200 million which does not circulating amongst us, for the dollar circulates in our communities one time. That's $200 million for others, like corporate America and some private industries. If 200 million is not circulated for one day- America will be attentive to what is going on, and we can say- Jena6 is going on, and we want change.

"
By the year 2007, the spending power of America's ethnic minority groups will exceed $2 trillion, outpacing the growth in white consumer spending by more than 80 percent, according to the University of Georgia's Selig Center for Economic Growth."

We spend 80% more than whites?? Whoa!

When the honorable Marcus Garvey was trying to take blacks back to Africa, in which he had the resources to do so for he was a very successful businessman, he was thrown in jail. No blacks in America? Then who's going to keep the economy growing? Who's going to support the American lifestyle? Who supports companies such as McDonald's and Timberland? Whites may buy one pair of Timberland boots that will last them 3 years. Original people buy Timberland boots every chance they get, which may end up to 1 or 2 pair every month. Who is making Timberland rich and putting their children through college generation after generation? Original people are, which simply means we are causing our own hell when we refuse to do what's right. If you spend money on November the 2ND, then you have no right in complaining when you are pulled over by the police for no reason. If you spend money you don't have, then don't complain about the white man or about your situation. We have the power as Original people to control our own destiny and be respected as civilized people who can take care of ourselves and we will not allow tragedies like Jena6 to ever happen again. We live in a country where money dictates everything. We give our spending power away, then think we are powerless.

ATLANTA- Georgia is one of the fastest-growing markets for Asian and Hispanic consumers while the state remains one of the strongest in the nation for spending power among blacks, according to a report from the University of Georgia's Selig Center for Economic Growth.

"Georgia's really the sweet spot nationally when it comes to marketing to African-American consumers," said Jeff Humphreys, the center's director and author of the report. "It just passed California in terms of size, and it's a very concentrated market. One dollar out of every five spent in Georgia comes from an African-American consumer."

The annual report, titled The Multicultural Economy, breaks down consumer spending according to race. It compares states with the largest consumer bases and fastest-growing markets for whites, blacks, Asians, Native Americans, multiracial residents and Hispanics.

After the 2000 U.S. Census revealed large pockets of new or growing Hispanic communities in certain parts of the nation, companies began using Humphrey's numbers to figure out where to target those consumers.

"Two years ago, the calls were primarily from packaged goods companies," he said. "It's starting to get more calls from service providers, particularly from the financial (industry) like banks."

In Georgia, disposable income among Hispanics has exploded 924 percent since the studies first year in 1990.

Then, buying power of the state's Hispanic population was estimated to be $1.3 billion. This year, it is up to $13.6 billion."

So, in conclusion, what is your Thought for November 2nd? Money is an illusion, a promissory note can't dictate how wealthy you are. Our wealth is based on our sticking together for one common cause. Our wealth is based on us circulating the dollar more in our own communities. If you know that Jena6 is just another case of unfair treatment of Original people, then what are you going to do about it? Knowledge is the foundation on which we are to base our actions. We should always do things based on what we KNOW, and we know that we can only make a difference "together", as one thought. The numbers don't lie, we have the resources to help ourselves.

So let's black out on November 2ND, and show support for those children involved in Jena6. For those children are our children and our children are our future.
