classic no doubt, De La Soul and Prince Paul sat a new standard for sample based hip-hop music and more-or-less innovated the skit. i can't really complain about the skits since most of them are funny as fuck.
The skills of the rappers might not be no extraordinary shit but they are 3 funny guys that works well over the crazy production so it doesn't really matter. they all display good chemistry between each other and producer Prince Paul as well. sounds a bit dated today but what the hell:

    8.5/10

The skits were brilliant and original and this album was light years ahead of it's time, a classic album and a must have in any discerning Hip Hop fans collection.

    No De La at all?

Definitely get 'Stakes is High' and 'De La Soul Is Dead'.

Might take a while to get into them though.

All their other albums are pretty solid also.

First 3 De La albums > The last 10 years of hip hop.

    Seriously.

I love alternative hip hop and de la soul, the jungle brothers, and a tribe called quest. This album really brightens up my day for some reason. Maybe it's the school house rock sample on Three's a magic number, or the jazz samples on the rest of their songs. I love this album, one of my favs.

I liked the album the first listen.
But the next 2 listens you just get pissed cause the album's almost unlistenable because of the skits. You can't help but get overwhelmed by it.
