Arrow Jackie Chan to Play Mr. Miyagi Role in ‘Karate Kid’ Remake

BY: Brad Brevet | January 13th 2009 at 7:01 PM
Why Sony Pictures feels the need to remake The Karate Kid is beyond me. Why anyone felt Jaden Smith was the one to star in it leaves me even more baffled after watching him in The Day the Earth Stood Still. Now that Jackie Chan has signed on to star in the Mr. Miyagi role I am pretty sure it can’t get much worse.
Entertainment Weekly breaks the news saying Chan will take on Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi role in the Harald Zwart (The Pink Panther 2) directed feature, which will shoot entirely in China. The story is expected to basically change for Jaden’s age (10) but will still center on a bullied youth who learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor. Chris Murphy penned the script, but I have no idea who he is.
Oh, and for those that don’t know Jaden Smith is the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

...I actually think this will be good for Jackie, but a black kid to play Daniel? what the fuck? thats worse than the new chun-li in the new street fighter film.

they can remake shit all they want.

    That movie cannot be recreated.

The 80's california setting, the music, the New Jersey Italian kid goin out west fallin in love with the hot blonde.
Oddly enough the original part was Daniel Weber, but after they cast Ralph Macchio, they changed it to Daniel LaRusso.

Plus you can't beat Pat Morita playing Miyagi.

This is like trying to remake Dumb and dumber without Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels

OHH Man what a bunch of shit! I know it's happened a million times, but I really hate when actors that are NOT Japanese play a Japanese person in a movie! Or people play Chinese who are not Chinese, etc!

But why would you need to remake this movie??? I know why. Hollywood has no fresh ideas! Every other movie these days is a damn remake!

    WTF?

jackie chan is a good idea imo. who better to teach the kid martial arts than the most well-known living martial artist alive.

however, i watched the day the earth stood still and i wanted that kid to eat shit and die. such a pain in the ass. i'm all for gender equality etc etc, but if you're going to remake a film about a white kid, use a white kid for christ sakes

i wouldnt want to see daniel craig as STEEL

It's just too bad Jackie is known more for his stunts than his martial arts. I am not a JC fan!!! Very over rated, IMO. Although his Martial Arts films, films from the 70's, are really good! And yeah dude. Miyagi Japanese 100% Don't forget in part 2 they go to Japan!!!
