Single season, I think its still Ruth because he hit 60 in less games. Plus he played at a time when the equipment was no where near what it is today and the pitching was a lot better.

Why would Canseco lie? What does he have to gain by being a 'rat'? Then you got Balco...the evidence is pretty strong. And then Pudge mysteriously drops about 20 lbs. after they start testing? And he is one of the guys Canseco mentioned earlier.

Im not going to be naive about this. The correlation between the increase in homeruns and the steroid era is pretty telling also. And since testing began, nobody has really come close to those numbers. Old records that were all of a sudden obliterated during the era when ballpayers started looking like WWE guys.
